I just bought a 96 GST and I noticed that it wasn't quite up to par. It does a poor 0-60mph of 9.3 seconds. My throttle response seems a bit slow and I think I may be experiencing some turbo lag aswell. The problem goes further than that though, even from a roll the pull of the car seems fairly poor. I keep an eye on my boost and it seems to stay steady where it should be once its there but I am at a loss of why it's so powerless.

I have changed the spark plugs/wires and the fuel filter so far and the oil was changed about 1k miles ago. I'm going to change the air filter today but I don't see it miraculously fixing my problem. Any ideas what could be causing my lack in power?

I have not done a boost leak test yet but I plan on doing one ASAP. There are no mods and I'm looking at the stock boost gauge I'm going to get an aftermarket gauge ASAP aswell.

I appreciate all the feedback and I will be sure to clean my throttle body and try a BLT. I'll let you know what comes of it. Thanks a load

I have an update to see if this could be part of my problem. I am a total noob when it comes to turbo so bare with me. While checking for a boost leak I noticed that part of the BOV is broken.

In the picture, the hose that has a red circle around it connecting to the BOV (the one higher up between the 3 circles), the part that the hose hooks up to is broken off and nothing is there but a hole. The hose that is supposed to be there is just laying freely but it is sealed up. Could this be part of my problem?

Yes that could be part of the problem. Also if its not a boost leak matience always helps. Like plugs wires and ect.

If its the biggest hose in your picture thats the recirculation hose, and yea that could cause your car to run rich and have poor performance. Some people un hook it because they like the way it makes the Bov whoosh even though it makes the car run poor. You should uncap it and hook it back up in any event..

May also want to check other basic "tune-up" areas. Such as, ignition timing, mechanical timing (timing belt), etc. There is a list of general maintance you should do before upgrading here on tuners. Hope this helps...

Ignition timing should be fixed for his model, timing components should be replaced if not already done. 1 or 2 teeth off will for sure hurt the performance, but you would know right away if that was the case. I say its a massive boost leak or leaks, could be the BOV cracked. I have a BLT already made that i will never use again, I will sell it for $5 plus shipping. I could flat rate the darn thing and you could be set. shoot me a pm and I will get this ball rolling.

I appreciate the feedback everyone. I will definitely look into all the mentioned above I'll get to it as soon as I get back home, currently on a mini vacation :p but I'll be back on my grind Monday. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks all.

Alright so I found that I had a massive leak with my stock BOV. I replaced it with a 1g BOV and it runs like a charm. Before I changed the BOV's I was running only 5-6psi now I get 14-15psi, kinda makes a difference :p
