I just bought a 96 eclipse gs (420a) with 102,000 miles on it. Just before I get home with it, it stalls on me. Since then I have drove it less than 100 miles, and it has stalled five more times on me. One time it stalled as soon as I started it on a cold engine. I cranked it, and it revved up and immediately died. It has done this twice. It sometimes dies when I let off the gas and come to a stop. It doesn't idle rough. It also dies while accelerating. It will act like the motor just shut off. I then would pump the gas pedal, and it would rev back up. It seems to try and stall the most while holding a steady speed. I can feel it jump (feels kind of like hitting a small bump in the road) and the engine quits. I can usaully save it if I quickly let off the gas and pump the pedal. Sometimes when it tries to die it will fall to around 100 rpm's and then jump up to around 1400 rpm's before settling down to normal rpm's. The car always starts right up after it stalls completely. I haven't had a single issue with the car starting.
I checked the cel and am getting codes 12, 14, and 31 (using the key dance method). These codes didn't pop up until after the car stalled several times. I cleared the codes and they haven't returned yet. One of the codes is for the MAP sensor and the other is for the EVAP system. Can a faulty evap, purge, or pvc valve cause the stalling issues I am having?

When the car is running, it idles well and doesn't tick, knock, or vibrate badly. It also doesn't smoke or leak any fluids. It idles between 800 and 500 rpm's. If I come to a stop or have the lights and air on it holds around 500. It holds around 800 in park with everything off.

The timing belt has been changed less than 1000 miles ago. It has also had the throttle body cleaned. I have put fresh gas in it with a bottle of lucas oil. I also ran a bottle of heet through it. I checked for vacuum leaks. I have also cleaned the map sensor.

Here is my list of possible faulty parts. Can I remove any of these from my list? Are there any parts I need to add?

Map Sensor
IAC
Throttle Position sensor
Crankshaft Position sensor
CAS
Fuel filter
Fuel regulator
FCV
EVAP
ECU
Vacuum leak

If you can contribute, please do so. I have searched so many posts related to this one only to find the OP didn't reveal the solution to their issue. I promise I will not let this thread end without me providing the answer to my car's problem. I just need help narrowing my repair and check list. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. These issues have been discouraging, but I'm not giving up. I've always wanted one of these cars. Thanks

Either your cas sensor or tps if you get the code for them or if not a big vaccum leak coming from pcv or tb.

Idk i had the same problem in my 4g63 i only have one code though and its for cas sensor which i have a 1g so idk maybe

Try to eliminate one by one or check tb if it has gasket

Thats where i will go for now then if i doesnt do anything your map sensor is bad and getting faulty readings i dont think evap will cause but idk im still new to this too

Hope you fix it man!

A friend of mines 96 RS was doing something similar. His screen on the fuel pump was so clogged up that it was starving for gas. His tank also has a bunch of rust down in the bottom of it. He too has an evap code in his as well as one for his TPS.

I'll double check for those leaks again. Where is the pcv located?

Umm let me see yours is just nirmal 420a so maybe driver side of your valve cover youll see a hose connected to it. Not really sure but you can check its always on top of the valve cover. Check left and right if you see it it away from the timing belt.
