95gsx vs 98gsx

neither link worked. But a 95 with 105K is good milage. I would see both in person perform a few checks. IE compression do a quick crankwalk test. Its not exact but with a few minutes you can tell roughly if it has walk or not. The 95 has a eprom where as the 98 has the more sought over body style. The 98 is a newer so less "could" be bad. But it really depends on how the owner took care of eithe car. I would specifically ask if the timing belthas been replaced. When it was replaced. Who replaced it. And what exactly has been replaced. IE tensioner, pulley, belts (both) ect. Also try to find out why the links are not working so we could get a look at them. Also ask around, chances are if the DSM was racing or even in the area where you live, someone will see it and know what is done to it and the typical condition and way it was treated/ kept. Its weird that the DSM is such a small group yet everywhere you go has a local group or forum. And memebers of the group bring up and mention sightings of other DSMs regardless of what mods are done to it.

I would say take the 95, got the eprom plus an extra 6 grand or so. Thats alot of money to play with. New turbo, fmic... oh wow, probably find a nice 6 bolt. I would take the 95'.

About how much does a 97-99 conversion with a decent white paint job cost?

Well wait, first this needs to be answered. Do you want your car to be a track/performance car, or a visual pleaser.

The 98' Obviously is nice looking, but the 95' has alot more potential just because it has the eprom, so your wide open to get DSM Link, you will also be saving a lot of money that can be used on other things.

In the end, we can't buy the car for you so go with what you want, but really think about what kind of car you want to have.

I want a streetable, nice looking car, that can hit into the 12's MAYBE 11's. I don't wanna 10 second car, but I want a nice medium between full show and full performance.

I'd take the 98...but that's cause I like the 2gb body better. If you want the looks, go with the 98. The 98 still has a lot of potential to put down some power...if you're willing to spend the extra money. I'm kinda curious as to what all had been done to the 98 though...I can see a half assed triple pillar/gauge install.

Like everyone else said, if you just want to make a ton of power, take the 95. Then take some of that extra cash you saved and get the routine maintenance done and maybe buy the car some goodies:rocks:

At the risk of sounding like a moron and you guys making fun of me i have a question. What is a eprom, and why does 95 have the small wing?
Zac

K thx guys, I think i'm gonna go w/ the 95 if it turns out ok, just for the fact I can't really afford a 10,000 dollar loan atm :)

O.K. Gonna be going to check out the 95 here in the next few days. What do I need to take with me, I have the compression tester and what else do I need to take with me? Should I make a checklist of what to ask about? Recalls, maitnence? Etc?

Yea get the vin and see if the reacalls have been done. also check the general condition of everything. CV boots, ball joint boots. Look for leaks, smoking at idle. Stuff like that. Also make sure you test drive it.

the 98 looks just like mine but but its a GST and was 70% less on the cost paid only 3k for it. I would probly go with the 95 for 5K seems like a decent price and has pretty much the same stuff besides the wing

I'd go with the 98 but the 95 is a good price then you have the money like stated above to mod the crap out of it. I'd do the 97-99 conversion with the wing then get it painted.
