just bought a 1995 talon in awsome shape with a blown timing belt, The car has a little over 140k miles on the car, motor and trans, But looks like about 40k on the body its in such good shape. Would it be cheaper to replace just the timing belt and possibly the valves or just throw a rebuilt motor into it?

Do these motors bend valves when the belt blows? Im used to working on non interference motors sadly.

also how difficult are turbos to rebuild on these cars?

Thanks guys

how lucky are you?sometimes it bends the valves and sometimes not...I got lucky and was able to put a new belt on and everything was fine.I would put a new belt on and cross your fingers because you dont know the extent of the damage unless you pull the head.I put the new belt on,closed my eyes, turned the key and it started and ran fine.as far as the turbo goes, its best to send it in and have it done by a turbo shop.

Most of the time you will bend your valves, but there have been cases where an extremely lucky individual will get away with just replacing the timing belt. Generally you can get away with just replacing the valves and smoothing the marks (if any) on your pistons.

I have had 2 (both 1G non turbos) they both bent the valves. One was realy odd though I replaced belt ran compression test it seemed good 148 - 150 across. I ran it for about 3 hrs run time then it los compression, I guessed it just slightly bent the vavles then bent more after engine got warm. But neither busted or cracked any pistons just replaced valves and ran.
