I have a 90 CAS conversion on my 95 AUTO GSX.

This week my car started making a weird noise every few startups. It would sound like something was in the fans but a more metallic sound. I would almost say like a very very soft rod bearing noise. It would stop after about 5 seconds of the car being on. My cars been doing this for about 4 days and today I was driving when it started to make the noise so I imediately pulled over to pop the hood and locate it but the car died.

I tried to locate this noise before but it stopped before I could pop the hood and see. It happened at random times and lasteed such a short period of time I could never get to it to see where the noise was coming from. Tonight was the first time it happened while driving.

The car turns over just won't start. All 4 plugs appear to be getting spark. When I push the throttle while the car is being turned over it gets a very faint surge of power but nowhere near enough to start the engine.

I know I have alot of things I need to check but thought I would post to see if anyone's had a similiar situation. My oil was changed last night a few days after I was getting the noise and no metal at all was in it so I know the noise is not rod related. I know the noise and the reason for the car not turning on may not even be related at this point but was just hoping to get any feedback before I go out tomorrow and start hacking away.

Figured a shot in the dark is worth time saved.

maby the bolt that you use to set the tenison on the acc. belts had fallen out and slammed all the pulleys tight. happened to my old 95. does the car get hot or over heat?

Here is my answer.

I'm guessing the valve broke and was bouncing around on startup until it finally lodged in the piston and brought the house down.

I thought the other exhaust valve as well as Cylinder 1 would be toast too if it was timing related? The belt was still tight and timing looked good. I wonder if the head had a failure somehow. The spring on the missing valve is totally unsprung but I'm a noob so I don't know if thats a post damage thing.

Well, that's got to hurt. Looks to me like a valve head just decided to turn loose. If timing belt was the culprit it usually likes to get more than 1 valve. Timing not likely since you said nothing of spark knock. Besides the tan color looks good. Probably a random valve suicide. You are going to need a head and for sure 1 piston. Depending on the miles and how much you want to spend is what your next move is. Spend you will at this point. Post what you are wanting to do at this point as far as rebuild or repair. I would be curious. Good Luck

Engine was from a 99 with only 25k on it.

I'm replacing the piston and head. Going to see what happens for the time being.
