Ok so my buddy has a 95 Eclipse GSX. It doesn't have power to anything. We have check volts at the battery and its 12.4v. We also checked all fuses with a multimeter to make sure they were good. All fuses checked good under hood and in car. We cleaned the battery terminals. We are lost! Cant find the issue, please help.

Sounds like you got some sort of short if you have no power to anything, such as the gauges, windows, etc, when did this start did you work on something before the problem?

If you have ZERO power to anything as in no door chime or anything then I would check the positive cable that goes to the fuse box. Also check the chassis ground going from the negative battery terminal to the firewall.

No lights or power come on at all. Car doesn't crank or turn when key is inserted. No lights come on when the door is open. No sounds at all come from the car. It's like a shell LOL...

It happened about a month ago, but a few days ago after it started raining last month or so.

I also changed the main fuses inside of his dash under the stereo area to make sure those main fuses were good.

I'll be keeping this updated soon enough.

Thanks guys

So it happened twice after it rained? It sounds like the ignition relay but that doesn't make sense if you have NO power. Brake lights and interior lights don't work? Wish I could help you but that has me stumped.

Ground's checked, negative cables replaced twice, changed out ecu to one from a working driving car, battery swapped many times with good ones that were fully charged, new terminals as well.

No power at all, no brake lights, no interior lights, no head lights, no door chime, not a single speck of power in the car at all.

Yes, EVERY fuse was checked and came out good, I will try replacing the 100a fuse anyways just to be safe.

Ummm.... what? ^^^

Have you tried giving all the main power/ground wires a fresh cut? Cutting off a 1/2" or so and removing the insulation on the wires and reinstalling.

when you test the wires and say there is power to the fuse box, are you testing the + wire in the fuse box to the main battery ground on the chassis, or to the negative on the battery?

If you are getting 12v+ from the box to chassis ground then there has to be a massive short between the box and cab... have you pulled the wire loom off across the whole engine bay?

And the main 100A fuse is good?

Very confusing. Something isn't right.

this is the most likely cause for this. the main fuse bolts in and is large and has a plastic sort of cap over it. can look good but not be good. usually caused by someone connecting jumper cables backwards. also would look at the power terminal on the alternator.

If you mean testing from the + on the fuse box to the chassis ground then you are incorrect. Voltage equals the difference in potential. Seeing 12V from + to the chassis ground would be a good sign. The best way to test for a short to the chassis would be to test from the chassis to a know good earth ground. Ideally you would want to see 0V and 0 Amps. I'm not attacking you in any way. I just don't want this guy thinking he has a major issue when he does not.

I would suggest checking your wiring harness as stated though.

Have you tried looking at the ignition lock cylinder? Battery wires good?

Take a closer look at the ECU, too. Look for any melted/burn spots or like a "fish" kind of smell.

You are clearly getting power but it is being grounded somewhere. Might want to take a quick look at the wires under the steering column, too.

Did you guys ever figure out the problem? Im having this same issue right now, my car was cranking the other day but wouldnt start, i changed out the ICM and put a new battery in and i got it started. the next day i went to start it up again it cranked over for a split sec then cut off; tried again got a back fire then lost all complete power to the car.

Eventually I cut all the wires and ground down new ground points for all the grounds with new cables. It worked and the car had no issues afterwards. I had checked all electronics before hand.

What wires did you cut the whole engine harness or just the grounding wire? Thanks man so there is hope, Ive been dealing with this for a week or two now, and i was thinking about doing what you did so now i know im going to have to do that.
