Can only post here so....

Putting together my 95 GSX. Bought it in pieces so I didn't see it come apart. On the flexplate I know there is the cupped shim that goes between the bolts and the flexplate on the converter side. Is there a shim of any sort that goes between the flexplate and the crankshaft?? I only ask as most of the imports I have put together do, but I can't find one in the box that he put all the flexplate parts in, and Satan isn't being much help (got an answer of "some do, some don't and we don't know why,nor can we find a part #").

Was hoping some one has recently put one together and can recall if there is one there or not.

Thanks

you might want to post in the drivetrain forum under the automatic tranny sub forum, im sure one of the guys there would know.

I went through the same thing with satan trying to get that for a 6 bolt for my swap. They are a bunch of tards over at the dealer and it took like 3 or 4 phone calls and they screwed up and gave me the 7 bolt plate instead of the 6. But yes there is a plate that goes there. I forgot about the plate the first time I installed the motor and the TQ wouldnt come up far enough to mount to the fingers of the plate. And without the plate the crank bolts tore up the bushing in the end of the crank. The plate is like 15 bucks from the dealer.

Thank you for the quick answers.
On the 1st one, if I could post this in the drivetrain section, I would. Thank you though.

On the 2nd reply, I was with you until you said "tore up the bushing in the crank". Just to be sure I understood, or stated my question properly, that answer makes me think you were talking about the spacer that is cupped and goes directly between the bolts and the flexplate itself. I am asking if there is a "shim" that goes directly between the flexplate and the crank flange itself. If there is anyone that could "for-sure" clear this up it would be a great help. I just don't want to guess and have to tear the trans out just to put one in later.
Thanks again, Andy

Thank you for the responses. Thought I would put in the answer I received, just in case this thread could help anyone out in the future. Finally found a decent dealer and we pulled up the diagrams, and all the part numbers, and (at least for the 95 GSX) there is just the cupped spacer and the flexplate. Nothing in between the crank and flexplate.
Thanks again

To be honest, we are not talking about a very thick shim. All you did was seat your converter an extra 1/8" max into the transmission. I did know that the "cupped" shim is to help contain any flex/shear action just below the bolt heads, as most imports use them.. Next time you have something out, just swap it. And your car is now proof that even if I had grabbed a shim and put it behind the flexplate, I apparently would not have hurt anything.

By the way, you wouldn't believe some of the answers I got in other forums! There are some scary sources of info out there!!!

(Found a new research tool, so I thought I would share the diagram that gave me my answer)
