hello everyone. just another newbie here looking to get started on making this go-kart a little faster. I kinda have a lot of questions as far as what to uprade with what. I have an 95 rs just stock. Here's my scenario and anyone who can help is a god. I talked to the people at hahn and I want to go with the stage III turbo kit, I also plan to rebuild the upper and lower engine with all forged and performance parts. So here are my questions. What kind of kit should I go with for the rebuild? Will I need to make any suspension changes? And what kind of trans. do I need to look at buying for this new engine? Last but not least: am I getting in over my head? Like I said, any info is greatly appreciated.

ok ill help. it depends on how much boost you wanna run. for your engine most people go with eagle rods and je 8.8:1 compression pistons, if your only gonna run aroud 14 psi like most people you really dont need head work, just a basic lower end rebuild. trans wise, our trand is pretty beefy but youll definetly want to get like a spec stage 3 clutch and maybe some fidenza drive shaft. suspension is not realle that big of a deal most people just get some springs and oyur definetly gonna need some good tires. i guess all i can say now is SEARCH also try 2gnt.com that site is specifically for the 420a eclipse search there and you'll be fine!!!! good luck and keep us updated!

If you're asking questions like this, no offense, all you're going to do with a "Stage 3" HRC system is destroy engines. Do things like everyone else. Buy the HRC 2 w/ FMIC and boost your stock engine. Find a spare engine at the yard during this time and rebuild that as you get used to driving/tuning a boosted 420A. There is a lot of work *you* have to put in to keep the car on the road. It's not hard work, but it's work nonetheless.

When the new engine is ready to go in and you have your other upgrades like a clutch upgrade and maybe stronger axles for big time power and you've done your homework on MSnS, then you can crank up the boost on the old stock engine and see what it takes to pop it. When the original engine dies, throw it in the garage to be rebuilt as a spare, rebuilt for sale, or just sold as is to someone else needing a spare motor to build.

That's the best way to do things. Still costs the same amount, but gets you boosted for under $4000 new out-of-the-box HRC.

talked with hrc and they said stage III is the same as stage II but with the fmic. so according to your info and theirs is this the same thing as what your talking about with just the stage II with fmic?

Before you even think about boosting, check the conditions of your current motor.

I was going to run 8psi on my stock block until I learn of the bad news. My compression was shot. 125 straight across. SO IF I did boost, it would've blown in the first place.

Get a compression test and leak down test done to check the status of your motor strength. Then go from there...

I think there was a miscommunication somewhere down the line; a stage II kit is basically the same as a stage I except with a FMIC.

thanks. glad i knew that before i ordered. and 125 straight across is bad? how about 65psi in the fourht cylinder? already tested and fixing thanks for the advice.okay, while we're here what is the difference between stage II and stage III?

Yes, 125 is horrible. You want to be around 190-220. Giving that it's a 2.0L..

I'm not sure of the differences, never messed with all those stages and upgrades. Just waiting to do it once and right.

"Stages" were just a device Hahn created to market their turbo kit in pieces. The concept isn't universal; one person's "stage I" can be another's "stage II." For the sake of this conversation, though, we'll stick with what Hahn calls "stage I," "stage II" and "stage III."

Stage I is the basic turbo system, with all the basic, necessary components. A stage I kit is either non-intercooled or cooled with a SMIC.

Stage II is all the above, plus a FMIC.

Stage III is a built bottom end (all forged internals and aftermarket components), bigger injectors and a better fuel management system, along with an upgraded ignition system, clutch and suspension.

THANK YOU. now all i gotta do is find people with the stageIII and finger out whats good about em, and what sucks about em. check for any threads on this if not, i'll be sure to post it. thanks to everyone

A stage 3 is basically just suppossed to just add some pistons and rods to the kit. Just do like VeloictaPaola said, look up GSGoingFast tech artical. He put together a stage 2 for under 1k. With all that money saved you can get some pistons, rods, valves, etc.
