94 talon tsi awd MT

got a green 94 tsi awd...they want to sell it to me for 4500, and it has 41k miles, body in good condition and so is the interior, some engine knocking, the owner doesn't know exactly what is knocking, if and when fixed he will sell it to me for like 5000. Is that a good price????i need help becuase im interested in this car, and really want it.

Until I read the part about the engine knocking, I was going to say it's a damned good deal. Generally the sound of metal hitting metal in the engine is pretty bad, I would find out what the problem is and then talk him way down on price...

that's what i was thinking...ANd ya knoe since its a 94, possibly the infamous crankwalk.

could be crankwalk, could also very well be rod knock..

It isn't crankwalk.

Might be a rod bearing, more likely a balance shaft bearing, or even the fabled old harmonic balancer.

That is way too much for a 94 with problems. The mileage is really low to be having problems like that anyway. Someone must have really ran it hard for 41,000, or didn't change the oil too often. Check the oil and see what condition it is in. Also look in the oil cap and see if inside the head it is a copper color. If so, the gauge cluster could have been swaped out because the way you talked the car is not in excellent condition. Just my .02 cents though.
