To start my car is a 1994 Laser RS 2.0 non-turbo. I was driving my car the other day and as I was driving the transmission started to slip like it was a clutch problem. When I came to a stop light and stopped everything was alright until I hit the gas and it just revved up and died. The engine died like I had shut it off. So I put the car in park and turned the key and the car started right up like normal. Then when I put the car in gear it didn’t want to engage the transmission. I moved the shifter to drive and it acted like it was in neutral. Then all of a sudden the transmission kicked into drive and the engine died again. I had the car towed home and I checked the TCU for any codes and all I got was short pluses which I understand as Alls OK? The ECU also checked out just fine. What's really confusing me is why the engine is dieing when the transmission goes into gear? So now im looking to you guys for some guidance. Thanks for your help everyone I’m so lost on this.

It sounds like it is not only slipping, but also the converter clutch is coming on when it's not supposed to.

This is usually caused by internal trans damage. I think the fact that it is damaged is even more likely in view of the fact that you are saying that the trans also didn't want to engage into gear.

Check the fluid level first, but you will probably need to have the trans looked at.
