:dsm:Ok I bought this 94 eclipse from a guy as a project for myself. The guy selling it told me that it was the timing belt and water pump well i checked everything and it was just the timing belt. The water pump wasn't back firing and it moved it wasn't seized. So i bought all the belts (water pump, alternator, timing, and ac) replaced all of them. I put everything back together tried starting it and it started smoking out the intake. It smelled like exhaust now here's my question how or what could've caused this and how can it be fixed? I was thinking the timings off but i had everything lined up or so i thought. So could someone help me with this i would like to take my car out of the garage. Thanks

you might want to retype this it really dont make any since. first they dont make a eclipse gsx non turbo 1.8
the gsx is the awd turbo 2.0

:dsm: The water pump wasn't back firing and it moved it wasn't seized.

the water pump cant back fire

im not trying to be dumb, but if you can redo it it really dont make any since

but goin off what you typed could be a timing issue, or maybe even check the plug wires make sure there all in the right spot

Double check your timing. Well more like quadruple check it. And sorry, but you don't own a GSX.

what they said. But it is kinda crazy, now is the engine that is in the car a mits engine or did some one replace it with an 80's honda engine? i thought from what you decribed that the engine is running in full reverse fashion. i'm saying it running in reverse. Now the reason i put 80"s honda engine in there was really for nothin but sumthing ive heard. so ive heard that int he 80"s some of the honda engines ran inreverse, but ran like normal with the intake and exhausts working as they should. I have only seen a 90's chevy impala run in reverse when being cranked over.

WTF? No he just needs to retime. And I'd work on the grammar before you get a warning from a mod.
