Calgary,
A buddy of mine just bought a 1998 Honda Civic Si and he wants to see just how quick his car is. He has a cold air intake in and the rest is stock. He challeged me to a race. My car is pretty much stock except for wires and plugs and all around maintenance. Which car should win.

WOW!!!

Really thats weird man like The Si makes around 130hp the talon makes 135hp so no real difference there. And the Civic will be a bit lighter but again not by that much. Willthe Civic win because of the cold air or is the Talon just to weak

This may get locked because it's "bench racing" but the Si should win. Lighter car, better hp to weight ratio. :thumb:

I hate bench racing but I just had a match up like this the other day. The damn SI walked all over me. I felt better a couple hours later when some dip in a integra reved on me.

WOW 160hp from a Hona Civic!!!!

Thats ridiculous so maybe i'll make up some excuse and not race him till next summer by which I hope to lighten up the car a bit (lighen hood no tire, jack) and I also plan to have a Cold Air Intake a 2 and 1/4 inch straight through exhaust. And maybe a Piggy Back or some high lift cams. By that point I'm hopin for maybe around 165 or a 170. Speaking of Cams anybody know any manufacturer that makes solid cams for a decent price.

Well I checked out the link from disturbed and your right they make 160hp the one on the site is a 99 but I dont think much changed from 98 to 99. But that car only has a 1.6L engine how does it make such horsepower.

it has better stickers than us. and we all know vinyl makes hp :thumb:

i dont think your gonna get 165-170hp from just cams and exhaust and cai. if you can go from 135-170 with just that, let me know.

hondas make so much power on smaller engines becuase honda is smart enough to produce their cars with fairly high compression on a stock motor. Their is a rare n/t talon 1g out their that had higher compression pistons and also a turbo intake cam. it made 165 stock. To bad there were only 250 made.

Go and race him if you have a 5spd. you may be a better driver and win even though he is making more power. But you shouldn't really consider a serious race(money race) with your car till you atleast do your intake and exhuast. the 2.0 n/t can be pretty fast if you know how to launch and shift right. Last week i kept up with a v6 mustang from launch until 65-70mph than it beat me. And i only have cold air intake , hacked maf, crocked mount n1 muffler on custom piping, blocked egr and adjustable coilover conversion coils. If i had a turbo intake cam, performance clutch, header and light weight pulleys, i would have beat it.

Reading Rules=Good.

No "bench racing". Bench racing is defined as posting hypothetical questions to try and see how fast or how powerful your car is, or will be. If you want to know what time to expect at the track, whether or not your car can beat another specified car, or how much power it will have with a particular modification (or mod list), then go to the track or the dyno and find out for sure. Do not ask for people to guess in our forums. It's pointless and it wastes space.
