I'm trying to help a friend install an FMIC ont his 92 eagle talon, and we are running into problems with getting the mass airflow sensor installed in line with the piping that we have.
I've noticed that all the searches I have run on this site, and others all have turbo's on theirs, is this needed for the MAF sensor to work, or are we going to have to custom fit some piping for this?

Yes, its on a N/T

The maf is stock, exact same (almost) as the 94 laser, which we have an old n busted one of those sitting here with us, for spare parts LOL

and we didnt spend any money on the IC, as it came off a car we already have that isnt running

So we are installing the IC onto the talon for now, and getting a turbo when possible, so its not like we don't have plans for that in the near future, but not near enough for our liking

i wouldn't install an intercooler on a non-turbo car. the engine will have to work harder to pull air through it due to the small piping and the internal design.

Alright I will take that into advisement, but as we already have the IC physically mounted on the car, we will likely just leave it there until we get the turbo installed.

We have the turbo itself, just not the manifold.

Also, what size wastegate would be good to run with a T3/T4 Turbo on a stock 2.0 ?

Yeah, the last poster made that point, and so im looking into getting te parts i need to install my turbo.

Manifold / Wastegate

super super super lame. its like the interfooler only that was funny

be careful turboing a n/a engine, they aren't as strong and the compression ratio is higher. a bigger turbo will help as far as knock up to a certain point, you still can't boost a lot.

T3/T4 isn't being very descriptive on what turbo you have. Sounds like you'll be running low boost so you'll need a decently sized wastegate. I'm not trying to be mean here but it doesn't sound like you really know what you're getting yourself into yet... so I'd recommend doing a bit more research first so you don't damage your motor.

If you're going to do a turbo kit installation on a non-turbo 1g, you'll need to do more than just the turbo and manifold and intercooler. Fuel pump, injectors, a way to tune it, fuel pressure regulator, oil drain line, feed line, coolant lines for the turbo if it's a wet housing, new exhaust system, wastegate.

There is WAY more to turbocharging a non-turbo car than just putting a turbo physically ON the car. You'll need to do some research on what it's going to take and reassess your objectives, as this is not going to be a cheap project in any way. I sincerely hope you don't skimp on the necessary parts or tuning, because if so, then you're on track to toast a perfectly good engine.

I once saw a civic with an intercooler, i wondered what he had done to it, but then i looked a bit closer and you could see that one side of it didnt have any piping attached to it. I proceed to take a pic and laugh and show anyone that would get the joke.... Dont be the civic.

As stated above this is not going to be cheap. Your friend would be far better off selling his NT and buying a turbo car. The amount of money he is going to spend putting a turbo on his car will be far more than just getting a turbo car.

^^^ well put. My friends and i have bought 3 cars over the past year. a 92 Laser awd turbo, 91 Eclipse gsx, and a 91 talon tsi. All turboed stock, all in decent shape, and all under 2k. All the money you spend on this project, your better off buying one of those, and doing maitenence on it. Im sure a nicley running turbo awd model will be a nice change from the n/t fwd model he has now. ( i went from a 95 rs to a 98 gsx nice upgrade )
