E,
I just completed a 6 bolt JDM engine and tranny swap in a 92 AWD Eagle Talon I purchased with a timingbelt failure. I have to change my shaft seals on the tranny output as they are leaking a bit (should have done it before, but I guess lesson learned) , but otherwise everything seems to be working. The car has 285,4xx km on it, and it certainly has needed help in a few places.
I've noticed that the tops of the rear wheels are leaning in. I took a square and found the front wheels are 90 degrees to the floor, but the back wheels are like 100-110 degrees. When I accelerate hard it doesn't feel really good in the back, and there is a very small vibration sometimes in it too when cruising. The tires are worn on the back and I don't see any weights on them, so it might be partly wheel balance.
I lifted the car up and with the ebrake off I wiggled the tire. There is some play in the wheel bearings. About twice as much as the ones in the front. I don't think it would be enough to make them lean that much, but I am not really sure. There aren't any "bad sounds" that would suggest the bearings are going, but they seem to be worn pretty good. I think it is at least adding to the issue if it is not solely responsible.
I also wondered if the shocks are going and they are the problem, or maybe the springs???
I was going to change my wheel bearings out, but it seems that it is not a real do it yourself kind of job (having trouble finding info on it, but seems you need a press?), so I guess I'll see about getting a shop to do it. I am curious to know if anyone else has had this problem, and what is the cause of it.
Thx
