E,
I just completed a 6 bolt JDM engine and tranny swap in a 92 AWD Eagle Talon I purchased with a timingbelt failure. I have to change my shaft seals on the tranny output as they are leaking a bit (should have done it before, but I guess lesson learned) , but otherwise everything seems to be working. The car has 285,4xx km on it, and it certainly has needed help in a few places.

I've noticed that the tops of the rear wheels are leaning in. I took a square and found the front wheels are 90 degrees to the floor, but the back wheels are like 100-110 degrees. When I accelerate hard it doesn't feel really good in the back, and there is a very small vibration sometimes in it too when cruising. The tires are worn on the back and I don't see any weights on them, so it might be partly wheel balance.

I lifted the car up and with the ebrake off I wiggled the tire. There is some play in the wheel bearings. About twice as much as the ones in the front. I don't think it would be enough to make them lean that much, but I am not really sure. There aren't any "bad sounds" that would suggest the bearings are going, but they seem to be worn pretty good. I think it is at least adding to the issue if it is not solely responsible.

I also wondered if the shocks are going and they are the problem, or maybe the springs???

I was going to change my wheel bearings out, but it seems that it is not a real do it yourself kind of job (having trouble finding info on it, but seems you need a press?), so I guess I'll see about getting a shop to do it. I am curious to know if anyone else has had this problem, and what is the cause of it.

Thx

well your car is supposed to have some negative camber in the rear from teh factory....but if there is play when you grab the wheel and jerk it up and down (while in the air) then you may have bad wheel bearings

I figured it should have some. There is a bit of play in the wheel bearings. I should get the tires balanced and see what it feels like then. They seem to lean in more than the other AWDs I've seen, but they were leaning in too.

I checked the wheel bearings, and had someone else check them, and they are ok. I measured my rear camber and it is -1.5 degrees, which isn't out much from -1 degree which is the factory setting. Its not leaning in as much as I imagined.

I changed tires to ones I had balanced not long ago, and it helped a little, but there is still that funny feeling in the back. I wonder if all those rubber pieces in the suspension are just worn out and need to be replaced? Does anyone make teflon replacements for them?
