I have a few questions regarding this swap

The body is a 90, the motor is out of a 91. The AWD tranny was screwed, so we put a FWD on it until I can find a decent AWD for a good price.

I know some of the plugs for sensors are different. I am trying to figure out which ones are and how to go about making this work.

Also, is the tranny mount different from the 90-91 or just it isnt bolting up because it is a FWD and not the AWD.

I will edit if I find any more issues. Thanks

Umm 1g = 1g. Motors are the same. :tease: I am not familiar with fwd tranny in a awd, But if the mounts are different then I would probably attribute that to the difference in transmissions. Please try searching the forums.

cute point and laugh smiley, really. the motors are essentially the same, but i didnt ask about the motor at all. i asked about sensors, throttle body, cam position sensor, etc etc.:tease:

Didnt mean to sound like a smart A%$. But the funny part to me is a fwd tranny in a awd. I wish I could be in that situation. I can find awd trans all day. But to find just one fwd 5 speed for a swap? I might as well try to win the lottery.

its cool, i didnt mean to sound like a dick either. just a bad day. ill swap ya fwd for an awd.......

the AWD I have is all chewed up gears on the inside, busted bearing. gunna sell it to someone on dsmtrader hopefully that might want to rebuild it or build a race tranny

If you have the remains of the 90 engine just change out all the sensors of it and bolt them on the 91 long block. If not your best bet is keep looking in the classified section and try to round them up. There is enough of the stuff floating around it should not be hard.

I am going to take a shot in the dark about the FWD tranny in a AWD car. My thought it should be a bolt in. The easy way would be if it was a 90 unit, if not take the shifting arms off the AWD box and install them on the FWD one. As for the drivetrain, take the driveshaft out and just let the rear end follow behind. If you wanted shave off a few more LBS. remove the rear diff&halfshafts.

Good luck

Thanks for the thought on the rear driveshafts and diff.... didnt even think about that. LOL. its been a long day. my buddy owns a few companies, Modern Speed Labs and Go Fast Diesel (Welcome!), so i have lifts and every tool known to man to work with 24 hrs a day. we took the whole cradle out of the 91 FWD and bolted it up to the 90 body so the half shafts and everything are good. the tranny mout to pass. side is about an inch off. not sure if its just the different tranny or if the 90 is as much of a hell child as we thought. having a hell of a time with the gas line coming off the tank so i can drop it.

fuel pump isnt kickin on so im kinda lost there. cant find out which fuse is the fuel pump, but havnt looked too much. found a 90 transister pack, coil pack, throttle with sensor and cam pos sensor fo $50 from a buddy so thatll be cool.

still lookin for a decent AWD tranny for cheap, but just want to know if the car is going to run or not yet.

does anyone know if the 90 ECU will work fine with the 91 motor? Im pretty sure it will because im using a lot of the 90 parts.

any more tips and tricks would help. thanks guys
