I'd like to start by saying I took a break from DSM's for a few years but had the itch again so ended up picking up my 91 TSI AWD about 2 years ago. I bought it stock with 215k miles on it from a 70+ year old man. I did just about everything new on the car. Timing belt, pulleys, BS belt, hydraulic tensioner (the only part not OEM for timing) New clutch, ACT flywheel, both front axels, slave/master Cylinder, shift linkage, shift bushings, and a few bolt ons. I only got to drive the car about 6-8 months total after doing all the work and then one day I was driving and it started making this noise. Sounds too fast to be a bearing but im not sure, and it goes away as the RPMs go up. Any help is much appreciated. Sorry, tried to embed the vid but didnt show for some reason.

Sounds like something hitting plastic or metal, I would start on the timing side, could be any rattle.

I agree with this guy! It sounds like something is vibrating on the timing side. Have you pulled the upper timing cover yet? It would be worth your time to inspect the belt to see if it shows signs of rubbing against anything. It could also be your upper/lower timing cover vibrating juuuuuuuust right because of loose bolts holding the cover. Start there and if nothing is found report back.

I have to go out and buy a new jack/stands first. Then hopefully this weekend i can take a look. Thanks for the info
