Ok guys ill be doing a 2.3 build next year and I wanna do this right and have a fun dd maybe just a weekend warrior but with dd in mind for sure. I'm wanting to get in the 400-500whp range prob just 400 but know I can take it to 500 if I wanted too. The farthest ill be spinning it would be to 8K. Please let me know what you think of this setup!

Engine: 6bolt block, MAP 2.3 stage1 kit, Fluidamper harmonic balancer

Head: 6 bolt head, Cometic head gasket, Topline revised lifter, GSC S3 cams, GSC springs and retainers, AEM adjustable cam gears

Drivetrain: Jacks 2.2 super HD with 4-spider center diff upgrade and EVOlll 10% 5th gear set, Megan Racing street series coilovers, SBC SS-X series tz/b Kevlar/ceramic dualfriction clutch kit, Streetilite xact flywheel

Ignition: NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs, NGK Spark Plug Wires

Turbo/intake: FP DSM ball bearing red, FP intake, VRSF 1g fmic kit, Tial Q bov, Hallman pro boost controller

Exhaust: FP manifold ported, full 3" exhaust with punishment racing downpipe with magnaflow muffler, Stainless Steel Recirculated O2 Housing For External 38mm MVS Vband Wastegate with Tial MVS Wastegate

Fuel: FIC blue max 1350cc, FIC fuel rail, Fuelab afpr, Walbro 255

Cooling: Mishimot aluminum radiator

Tuning: 1g dsmlink v3, AEM wideband

Gauges: AEM digital boost, Oil pressure, Oil temp, and water temp

That's my setup so far but please let me know if I should do anything different it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Looks pretty good, you got most everything covered.

I would say for a 400-500 whp goal the red is too large though, the green would get the job done easy and produce a even quicker spool. Since you are building a stroker I would assume you are looking for the quickest spool you can get.

Nice build setup. should be fun. I would keep it as more of a weekend warrior/fun car.
AEM wideband for on the fly monitoring just to be safe?

Ya I was thinkin the green might be the better choice also. I can't wait to get the build started!

Ok I've decided to go for 500awhp now and debating on witch turbo to go with once again ha. Here's what I'm thinking of I want a little room to grow also. DSM Ball Bearing Red, DSM Ball Bearing Black, FP HTA DSM86 Ball Bearing, or FP HTA DSM82 Ball Bearing. Please lead me in the right direction it be much appreciated. Id like to get some more input on my whole build so I cant start ordering too.

you planning on running it on pump gas or e85? (sorry if i missed it)

what are you using it mostly for?

track, the red will spool and make the tq faster....

if your street/drag i would highly recommend the black. the black is an all around performer and allow some room to grow.

It will be for dd or just a weekend warrior. It prob wont ever see the track. We got 91 and e85 here

Well choosing either or, will change your choice on turbo... E85 will produce greater results than 91 on corresponding turbos. I personally have no experience with the red... But the black to me is a better turbo because you can puts around and not have to hit boost as much so as the red...

But that's my driving style I prefer bigger turbos to be able to putz around out of boost.

But a 2.3 and a red would be pretty nasty setup and I am sure will be able to accomplish your goals on e85.
Being from Ohio I've never messed with 91, but I would expect you would need meth to come
Close to youR goal.

Just a thought have u looked at using a hx40? Cheaper, spools good and could makeover than your goal? Just an idea

Like you said the black would prob be the all around better choice. I would most likely go with e85 but the only bad thing is we only have on station for that. On the positive side it's open 24hrs. From what I read about the holsets they are very good turbos. I kinda want to go with fp though since I've heard nothing but good out of them and I hear there customer service is excellent.

so far everything i have had personal experience with FP has been nothing but short of fantastic. its just now i want to go with a different style turbo. but like i said the black will def get you to your goals.

my close friend had his fp green take a dive, he sent it to them, they went through it gave him there feedback and rebuilt it for a very good price, i dont recall the time frame but it sure wasnt as long as i expected so you should be happy

good luck!

I'm actually going for a very similar build this summer! I'll be going 2.3 with built bottom end including an eagle crank. Ill be using an HX40 with the .70ar hotside and a 38mm wastegate off the ERL t3 manifold. Our setups are very similar but for the money i would go Holset if i were you. Cheap, Quick Spool, and Reliable.....its a pretty obvious choice to me. Overall your setup looks good!

What maf are u gonna use?

That seems to be the only thing missing unless I overlooked it, or are u going sd?

I have now decided on the HX40 final decision it is way cheaper and will accomplish my goals. I don't know witch one to go with the 6,7, or 8 blade? I'm thinking 7 cause its in between. What do guys think? I will be doing the SD route.

Glad u made the choice to go hx40... Are u getting a standard or batmowheel?

The 7 blade will get u there.. But I believe the 6 blade flows in the neighborhood of 68~ish lbs/min ...7 and 8 blades are lower... Just something to keep in mind

Idk what would you prefer? I haven't read about the batmowheel

Read up on holsets buddy

HX40:

The 8blade hx40 has a 58mm inducer and flows about the same as a 60-1 (around 60lb/min) with ALOT better high boost efficiency and spool speed. It is the most common hx40 out there. The small bep housing with the hx40 turbine wheel is plenty to reach the full potential of the 60lb/min 8blade hx40 compressor. 20+ psi by 4100rpms with 272s.

The 7 and 6 blade hx40 is called the super40 and has the 60mm compressor inducer. This compressor flows around 69lb/min. You can get this wheel in billet style (think HTA). The non-billet wheel spools as fast as the 8blade hx40 in the bolton bep housing and has done 653whp at 40psi per the holset results only thread. Billet should spool even faster. The t3 .70 a/r BEP housing slows spool about 400rpms. But reports show a significant gain in flow per psi. So expect more power at lower boost with that turbine housing.

I plan on running a hx40 batmowheel, but I am not using a BEP housing, I plan on using a 12cm hx35 twinscroll housing and having machined for a hx40 turbine wheel, on a 2.3l build.

I just put together my 2.3 HX40 build. So far I've only done some idling time due to some oil leaks I found. But as soon as I get the leaks fixed I should be out driving it. I'm on 1250's with E85. Once it's all tuned I'll check back with more feedback but I have a feeling this thing is going to be a monster on the street.

Nice man what you using for your turbine side? I'm thinking of going with the BEP .70 A/R hotside like FirstCarIsA GSX mentioned above.

I got a good deal on the turbo and it came with the BEP .55 hotside. I don't have any experience with the .70 AR but from what I've read it's better all around. I decided to keep it simple plus I already had a punishment external wastegate off the O2 so I wanted to keep that. I do plan on pushing the setup to 500 awhp or as close as the 1250's let me get on e85. The injectors I think will be my limiting factor.

Do you guys think the HX40 with the bep .55 would be a good torquey setup with the gsc s3 cams?

I would like to go the twin scroll route but its kinda costly. So im gonna keep it simple and go with the BEP housing. Im gonna try and find the super HX40 with the 7 blade I just don't know what housing to go with. which one would be more suited for my goals? Sorry for all the questions guys but I just wanna do this right the first time.
