Hey all I’m just got a 1991 Eclipse GS 1.8L!
Car was sitting for over 2 years from previous owner, I checked all fluids, and put some fresh gas on the car, about 4 gallons, got a new battery but unfortunately I am getting cranking but not starting.

Previous owner did change the fuel pump and fuel injectors, the car is supposed to have a blown head gasket, I need a car right away so for now I’m trying to use a temp fixing by using one of those head gasket filler kits. I did notice that the previous owner had cut off the OEM throttle position sensor harness and the TPS on the car has 5 pins instead of the 3 pin ones I’ve been seeing on most places as a replacement.

I am trying to figure out the right sequence of cable and pin to see if that will fix my problem, if any one out there can help out it would be greatly appreciated!

I told you in your other thread that is not a TPS sensor. TPS is on the opposite side of where that is. Front side of throttle body. If memory serves on a 1.8 that is the idle control.

4G37's don't get much love on the site so there aren't as many examples and pictures.

BTW: This information comes from the Factory Service Manuals you can (should) download https://www.dsmtuners.com/forum/articles-manuals-documents.262/

As Paul pointed out the TPS in on the other side of the Throttle Body.

What you are looking at is the Idle Speed Control Servo Motor (Electric Motor) and the Motor Position Sensor (which has the Idle Position Sensor inside).

Unlike the 4G63 based cars, the 4G37 uses an ISC that is a simple electric motor that the ECU powers or reverses the polarity to move the pintle in and out to adjust the airflow through the idle speed bypass. The ECU needs to know where the pintle is so it doesn't break it (or the drive gears) so there is a position sensor for the motor and a switch to tell the ECU when the throttle is closed. The position sensor is like a TPS in that it's a potentiometer and returns a voltage proportional to the position of the ISC pintle.

The MPS connector has 6 pins. It looks like Pin 1 is either a Ground on Not Used.
Pin 2 Green/Red +5v Sensor Power
Pin 3 Green/Black Sensor Ground
Pin 4 Green IPS Signal
Pin 5 Brown MPS Output Voltage
Pin 6 Green/Red +5v Sensor Power

Thank you!! I will mess around with this today and see if I get any luck getting the car to turn over 🙏🏽

One thing you never mentioned was doing any actual diagnostics. You just said its not starting and the previous owner shotgunned parts at it and now you're doing more of the same. You need to figure out what component you're missing for it not to start.

Engines need fuel, spark, compression, and timing (both mechanical and electrical) If one of those is out of sorts then it won't run properly (or at all)

I've seen more than one 4G37 break the balance shaft belt to cause a no start.

Thankfully its non interference so its just the time to tear it down to replace it and you're back on the road.
