So...I got my car back together and got everything tightened and torqued down, ready for it's first start.

Well, I go to sit in the car, turn the key to the ON position.. Didn't head the Tell-Tale sound of Rapid-Fire clicks from the TB...Turned the key over.. starter clicked and that's it.

Well.. let me explain a little background with this car. The harness is a Tit-bit hacked in the engine bay. I was able to check the harness on my 91 Talon and compare, and go by that... but there are a few wires that I have no idea where the f*** they go.

When Got the car, it was all a mess. The Key wouldn't start the car, they had a stereo wire rigged to the starter and would touch it to the battery.. and that's how they started it. Well... of course I replaced the starter harness with the one from the 91 and plugged everything up. I don't want this damned thing ghetto-fied.

=/ So... I'm at a loss. Below are a few pictures.

Also note.. the small square golden colored plug that has two bolts that hold it to the frame behind the ECU, I swapped those out from my Talon. Now, when I turn the Key, I hear a reassuring click from around the ECU. The ECU is also Non-Eprom, rebuilt in 08'. Still has the yellow tag on it and everything.

There is a small flat chip... with two screws. It's pictured below. it was sitting down beside the ECU. And idea WTF that is?

There is a broken Black wire with a white stripe. And then another Wire with a plug that goes nowhere...

This is a plug I have no idea where it goes. One wire is green, the other is blue with a yellow stripe

Alligator clip?... Yeah.. no idea. And the "Chip"

D'aww...No takers?

Mmm. Not sure if I added, but the Resistor was also hacked. The one located near the Coil pack. Has a flat plug?

I couldn't swap over the plug from my 91 TSI parts car as it has 2 more wires than mine does. The plug was completely missing on my GSX, so I had to compair and wire that way. Anyone know which one goes where? That way I can double-check my work? My Manual doesn't give the location of the wires, only that wires run to it...

A starter just clicking sounds like a dead battery or a bad selonoid. Have you checked to ensure your starter is operating correctly? Remove it and take it to an Autozone for a free test.

I removed it last night. Luckily I have a spare. When I tried it again last night, it sounded a lot like either

A: A horrible Ground wasn't causing the starter to get the correct power
B: The starter is simply bad.

I'm going to take both to Autozone today and have them tested.

Any idea on what those wires/chip may be?...

The click you hear is the starter solenoid throwing the starter gear against the flywheel. Check the wiring to the starter motor. It does sound like the batteries you tried may be dead, though. Also, there are enormous differences from 90 to 91 wiring and many sensors have different plugs and/or wire colors.

A : Battery is brand new.
B : Engine turns over by hand.

The starter has a loose bolt? The one that goes to the starter Solenoid is very loose. The previous owner had this starter hotwired to jump directly off the battery to kick the engine over. I was thinking maybe it fried something?

Where, exactly, is the MPI relay?

The clicking your hearing(near your radio) could probably be mpi relay. On my 2g its behind the console like right under the cd player.

If nothing else works out. I have the whole interior and exterior unmodded wirring harness. The harness was pulled from my parts car (1990 TSI). I have no plans or intensions of selling it but if your out of options then make me an offer.

Got it.

One of the studs on the starter were broken inside. Took them and had them tested. The one from my parts car passed with flying colors. The one that was in the GSX failed twice and barely workd on the third attempt. Installed the good one and it turnd right over.

I made sure I was getting oil and started the car. Sounded good for the 15 seconds it would run. Uhm, I suspect I got a few vaccum hoses wrong? It also will die with the slightest bit of pressure on the gas pedel.

o_o My manual doesn't give precise directions for the hoses... guess I need to check them again, or I have a horrible leak somewhere...

Anyone have a vaccum map? Or where might I be able to find one?

Update

So I confirmed all hoses are in the correct spot, so I suppose I need to detail my issue.

I can get the car to turn over freely and crank, and it will eventually start. However, I can smell gas pretty strong every so often during cranking, and when it starts, it purs for about 3 seconds, then starts lugging down and starving for air/fuel.....can't tell which.

One of the bolts on my Manifold-Turbo are damned near stripped out, so I couldn't torque it a whole lot, but I could the other three. Also I have one or two bolts like that on my Exhaust manifold. Would this cause an issue like that?

One missing bolt on the turbo to manifold and another on your exhaust manifold will not cause the symptoms you are describing. Unless, you are sucking too much outside air into your exhaust and the o2 sensor is picking up that outside air and sending incorrect signals to the ECU. I would find this unlikely, however. A strong gas odor indicates a leak. Usually around the injectors. Check to ensure no gas leaks between the fuel rail and each injector and the bottom of each injector. Also, check for leaks around fuel filter.

(Resolved)

I found the issue. It's tossing Codes 12-13-25.

Time to learn how to resolve those, however, this individual issue has been accounted for.
