90 awd--swapped trans to 23 spline--will 23 spline tc work?

I searched

Okay my car would upshift into 2nd but would not downshift into 2nd. Guy is selling "1990 awd trans out of a talon." Swapped that in, bam my tcase wont go on. New trans has 23 splines on the output shaft to the tcase.

If I buy a 23 spline tcase will it bolt on fine? I would like to know before I waste more money. Any help is deeply appreciated.

Yes, if you get a 23 splined tcase it will work. I'm assuming you have an auto right? Otherwise I would have just fixed the tranny you had if it was a manual. Did you have yours looked at?

Are auto transfer cases same as 5spd? Im thinking they are not since 5spd rear ends are not the same as auto rear ends.

no I have a manual, I found a replacement cheap.

actually, you dont HAVE to buy a 23 spline transfer case. You could swap the output shaft for the transfer case from your 90 trans and put it in the new one. Its really easy to do if you dont want to spend the money or wait on a 23 spline xfer case.

That is exactly what I did, the shaft pressed out easily.

UNFORTUNATELY, I got ripped off on dsmtrader for 250 bucks, and the "perfect" tranny I bought and drove to Indiana to pick up will not go into first. The gear is completely ####ed up.

I am about to burn this car.

How hard is it to swap the first gear and syncro out of my old tranny into this new one?

As always any advice is greatly appreciated.
