90 and 91-? tranny differences x230847203984

I took a look at my clutch after 1k miles and all looked good. Hooked everything back up again and I see a leak Turns out the driverside cv shaft seal has a hole in it. I call the local Mitsu dealer here and find out that seal is $430 I told him I had the previous tranny still there and he said it should fit. I go home and pop the old one out and tearing it all up in the process. I 'try' and put the 'new' one in from the old tranny and the diameter is to big

Tranny seal is different from 90-91-?

The 91-? is a black rubber piece
The 90 is a copperish colored lip with black rubber on the inside

$430? It's about 6 bucks at autozone.

On my '92 tranny, the seal had the copperish metal lip as well. I got this one from the a dealer for under $10, if I remember correctly. I had also purchased one from Napa for cheaper a while back. Be careful at Autozone, they had it listed as the same as the passenger side. They are different.

the dealership was probably trying to sell you the whole cv shaft which may or may not include the piece you're looking for.
