Hi everyone long time lurker first time poster just a few questions looking for thoughts and opinions. whats everyone think about the 8 blade hx 40? Would it be worth it to get the bep 70 hotside? Id like to hit my goal of 600 hp . This is my first non mitsu flanged turbo build had a 20g just not fast enough anymore

Also looking to get justins input as im told he is the holset guru

The 8-blade is a better-match to the .55 housing being that it spools quicker and performs better at lower boost levels. If you're seeking those horsepower numbers and using the .70 T3 housing, I see no reason not to use a 6-blade or 7-blade 60mm HX40.

Awsome thanks for the reply i am having a hard time finding a 7blade which is what i really want if you know anyone or personally have one i will definantly buy it

got any local junkyards? also might wanna check out some dodge cummin forums, I find used ones all the time for $150 to $300.

This is unfortanate, I did alot of searching but was under the impression that the 8 blade HX40 would not flow to it's maximum potential without a T-3 housing. I just bought a P.R T-3 manifold and looking for some similar numbers with this turbo, looks like a Batmowheel upgrade has to be done.

As for local yards all i found was an hx 52 and ill have to check out the dodge forums thanks

JusMX141, So say that the OP was to run the .63 AR T3 housing? Now essentially it would allow for some more airflow up top (top-end power), While sacrificing some spool time give or take 2-300 R.P.M's wouldn't it be some kind of benefit? I have read somewhere in the Forums that a person was having back pressure problems with the .55AR housing and the 8 blade after 24 P.S.I and said he could have ran more P.S.I with a .70 AR housing. Now you said that the .55AR was a better match and that the .70AR was probably not worth it with a 8 blade, but if he went in between with the .63AR it would be the best of both worlds and more realistic to reach the 600 H.P goal?

The HX52 is a huge turbo, I am assuming this is your D.D. Spool time is gonna be up in the high 5K's due the the wheel size. It makes crazy power though. If you look in the Holset results forum there is a member who has been running it. But your goals of 600 H.P would be easily obtained after tuning it of course. But I don't think drivebility would be great, more of a track only kind of turbo, unless you don;t care anything about lag on the street.

Sorry forgot to mention this isnt my dd its a weekend warrior
5000 spool time that isnt bad the hx 40 with the .70 ar housing i thought spooed at like 4500 the cars going to have aan 8000 rpm limit would i have to change the exhaust housing on the 52 im assuming its already pretty big only reason i ask is i can get one for 70 bucks and have it rebuilt cleaned and coated for 200

A 52 for $70??? Jump on it, even if you dont use it immediately. Thats fn crazy cheap. You could probably make a shit ton of power, albeit with a ton of lag, on pump gas with a 52. Youre definitely going to need a t3 mani and either a 4 bolt or vband too.

Was also thinking i could use the bep .70 ar housing on it as i found out the 52 is theoretically an ar. 82 and ill be using e 85 with smim crower 288 8000 rpm limit and a t3 divided
would i need two wastegates for this turbo?

I don't know where you came up with that, but it is wrong.

The only HX that cannot reach peak airflow production in a DSM bolt-on housing is the 35.

The only experience I have with the Tim's Turbo .63 housing was on a HX35, and it performed as bad or worse than a .55 bolt-on housing. For the money I'd go .70 without second guessing....it's not like the Tim's housing is drastically different in terms of manufacturing.

Ok thank you for all the info i apreciate it

is 500 a good price for an hx 40 7 blade with no shaft play ?
