alright so I'm about to rebuild my 7 bolt! full engine rebuild and i had some questions about some of the options i can get. what kind of cams do you recommend, I'm getting hks. but its either 264 or 272. and also what compression ratio should i get for the piston rings! i plan on getting the weisco, i have the option of 8:3:1 or 9:1. your help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

7 Bolts have a higer tendency to crank walk yours may never ever do it but there is a higer risk. Most people don't bother trying to rebuild a 7bolt because of that possibility. Like myself I decided on a 6bolt because it was cheap 1500 bucks (cheaper then a 7bolt rebuild) and they are easy to come buy. Plus for the built motor I want I could buy 2 used 6bolts first.

Since you are set on a 7 bolt, I would do cams while you're in there maybe with some gears. 272 and 264 combo may suit you well with the top end. I think 9.0:1 compression would be good for you, but others may say the 8.3:1 would be better. Good luck.

well a 6 bolt is still in the air! its just i dont have the money. id have to take out a bigger loan. i want to do a 6 bolt, but i dont know where to get one or if i should just get the block. if i do the 6 bolt would i have to change my ecu and everything? or just the motor!!

It's not anymore expensive really. I did a 6-bolt bottem-end and kept my 2g head. We just had to alter things. Motor-mount, 1g CAS, etc... Yes, you can keep your ECU. I got DSMlink so I didn't have to worry about splicing my ECU for the 1g CAS. Also, I got the RRE CAS plug-n-play! Works great!

alright i think i got it. im looking at sbr short blocks, and a stage I 6 bolt block for 1899.00
now im leaning towards keeping my head and just doing the work that needs to be done but im not sure yet.
but as far as this swap kit goes, what else would i need. this is the swap kit im talking about.

let me know what you guys think. thanks

That swap kit is $$$$! Just piece it together individually. Trust me! As far as 6-bolt, we used: full 6-bolt bottom-end, timing accessories, gaskets, front-case, CAS, oil-filter housing, oil pan and a 6-bolt flywheel. There may be a few more things... that's off the top of the dome. Other than that, we modified the drivers-side motor mount and the 1g CAS mod. Get a 1g CAS and buy the RRE plug-n-play! And we enlarged the head bolt holes for the 1g block to accept the 2g head. Hope that helps at all.

ok, as far as the compression ratio goes for the pistons, i have a choice of
ross. 8.5.1, Wiseco 8.3.1, JE 8.5.1, and Arias 8.8.1. im not up to knowledge on my compression ratio's so but im thinking ither the ross, or weisco. what you guys think.

Definately Ross or Wiseco, The 8.5:1 compression would be good, as that is what I am using on my 6 bolt swap. See what others say though. :thumb:

Ross are great pistons, and reputable. But, if you really are planning on only running 20psi, you might look into the ARIAS. they're not as well known in this community, but are more common in domestic applications with ridiculous HP. I've got 8.3 wiseco. It was only after i was done i decide i wanted the Ross 8.5. :(
