Hey guys. I was wondering if i should rebuild my 99 7 bolt or do a 6 bolt swap. The engine was running fine, no walk or anything until my oil line broke and probably seized up my bearings. I read up on the 6 bolt swap. It looks like alot of time and possibly money and in the end a CEL might just pop up or won't start. You think its cheaper for a 7 bolt rebuild or a 6 bolt sswap. I just want a dd that runs about 350hp. Thanks

if you just want 350HP i would leave it with 7 bolts. from what i have read 7bolts can hold 400~450 just fine.

id say stay with it.. but if i had the money id slap a 6bolt in a heart beat...!!!! but then again its just my opinion...!!!! some people make it seems like its alot of money and time... but i had no experience with a gst 7bolt vs 6bolt yet it only took me 2 days to do the whole swap...!!!!!! the part that took longer was getting the right gaskets

Being a 99, you have the split thrust bearing like the EVOs have and it's a pretty good design. I'm going the 6 bolt route with my 99 simply because I want to have an engine assembled and ready to go for when mine dies so I'm not waiting for a machine shop to finish my stuff. It'll all be fresh in my mind (along with pictures and labeling) on how to reinstall everything I've taken off. And if I'm going to have an engine ready to go, I might as well make the engine waiting a 6 bolt. The swap isn't too expensive. I'm using a 7 bolt head & 2g intake (or an EVO 3) to keep some stuff the same. You need to wire in the crank sensor wires to the CAS, grind down a driver's side motor mount, do a few other things. It might cost a few hundred more to go 6 bolt seeing that you need at least a shortblock, but it's not very expensive if you do it yourself.
