ROFL Here we go one more time. While my main DSM is "under construction" for my purpose built DSM. I am really considering starting up the NON turbo 6g72 DOHC ***AWD*** 1Ga Swap.

I have a 94+ engine already sitting around. I know if I get the NON turbo 3000gt GTO AWD 5 speed it is essentially the same tranny and T case minus differences in where a few things mount to the tranny like slave cyl. starter. And difference between speedo drives.

I've played around with this idea a while back (maybe 2 years ago) and found a lot inside the engine bays are similar. Mounting isn't terribly hard, axles and drive shafts are pretty much swap overs. With the exception the half shaft on the DS axle that uses a different carrier bearing housing.

My biggest question as of now is WIRING. I have found a few different pin out diagrams of both 3kgt's and DSM's. Anyone have any inputs from people who might make stand alone harness conversions, to anyone who has done this (successfully), or any info on making a custom harness.
I have this idea in my head of making a custom joined harness system like the 240 engine swap guys can get from swap stores like 2jzswap.com, ect.

Anything in this area will be useful.
Thanks guys.

You might want to consider just using the 3kgt wiring harness instead, but its up to you really on what you are thinking of doing. Honestly that would be a pretty sick swap and it shouldn't be to difficult to get the stock dsm harness to work, the problem is that you have a N/t DSM so you would have to keep the motor NA but it looks like you want to do that anyways, so GL. :rocks::hellyeah:

Probably the worst part will be getting the motor mounted in with the tranny.

Well the car its going into is already set up AWD.. From my examining of everything so far. The Transmissions are the same minus the bell housing.. Including gearing and T case. So from the bell housing back you can use the OEM axles and drive shaft and trans mount.

But the engine will need custom made to fit mounts. The engine its self takes up "Close" to the same dimensions as the 4g63 with everything bolted onto it. So space isnt as big of an issue.

The non turbo 94+ block was picked because of the stronger bottom end. NT was picked because it can fit better than using the TT block with turbos.

Some day I may boost it.. but it would probably be a rear mounted STS style turbo or a Whipple charger just for kicks...
The engine its self can still be mod'd on 3sx's site.
Even NT this engine could get bigger rods and up'd or lowered compression and cams ect just like a dsm build.. So it has potential.
Just trying to figure out the electrical part of this swap and what would be easiest and most reliable..

You'd have to use a 3S ECU anyway so why not use the harness too? And width wise, you sure it's gonna fit? A 3S is definitely wider than a 1g DSM.

The 3,000gt's are a wider car but have wider profiled wheels ect and more room in the wheel well than we use up on a 1g DSM. The engine will fit im sure of that.

Front to back it is tighter than id like since the engine rotates that way, but thats why im using the NT block :)

you have to figure the engine its self isnt terribly different front to back of the block from a dsm. It has the same bore and is only 3x3 with a slight offset. instead of 4 cylinders long. The 60 deg block helps fit from side to side of the engine. If it were a 90deg like a chevy 4.3l it would have a hard time with the DOHC heads on it.

Weight wise the block isnt too far off the 4g63. If i remember correct (HAHA) the 6g72 BLOCK its self uses less iron then the 4g but the extra head puts it over the 4g63T block by like 80lbs or something CLOSE to that.. BUT you also have to remember the weight hangs MORE over the front axles one way and more over it another.

So the weight distribution wouldnt be any huge difference.. In case you were wondering that..
Only thing HUGELY different between chassis is how the car will handle the added TRQ with a stronger power curve. It will have a better curve than any 4g63 build compared to how you build the 6g the same way... HP for HP this thing would make it sooner and with more trq.. so drive line beefing up is DEFF if I ever plan to BOOST the poor thing

I am almost positive i have seen this done, i think it was a white 1g?... idr..

but

That bottom video, isnt a VR4 engine.. its actually a 2.5l v6 I think its not even in the 6g's family i cant remember the code but its not a 6g i know that much..

The V8 one is crazy though! That had to consume a decent amount of $$$ to set up... The car didnt even have a rear diff and now its RWD with an inline engine... >_<

I think but cant remember for sure thats a 6a engine in the 2g.

Yeah I saw a White 1gB FWD with a 6g72 swap. I think everyone has seen the pics of the one being swapped into the red 1g to which idk if anyone knows if that car ever got up and running.....

Im trying the opposite (4g in a 3kgt) and was thinking about just running 2 harnesses,3k body and dsm engine.

I have some ECU/harness pin out diagrams for both 3k gt and 1g dsm's if you need anything like that let me know.
