I'm having issues finding what I need with the search. I'm picking up a complete running 6bolt motor for my 94 Talon TSI AWD. I need to know what needs to be done to the new motor, what I need to buy or whatever. IT is a complete motor that will be replacing my complete blown motor.

I'm sorry I'm sure its been covered, but I cannot seem to find what I need to know.

Are you guys serious? Is the only 6bolt/7bolt info on the all mighty DSMTuners.com, just to identify weather or not you have a 6 or 7 bolt? Thats lame people! Pages and Pages of "Whats a 7bolt, whats a 6bolt?" and "do I have a 6 or 7bolt?"

I would say thanks, if I owned a 2G. Trust me I do my home work. But I'm sick and tired of all the billions of stupid "what is a 7bolt" questions. I have done the home work and CAN NOT find any info on swapping a 1G Motor into a 1G Car! I own a 1G 7Bolt! A 94, not a 95. Swapping a 90 Motor in!

Perhaps it's too simple for us morons to ask questions about it? Maybe?? I don't know.

You need the 7bolt flywheel. Sometimes the 7bolt head bolt holes are too narrow for the 6bolt head bolts. Now have at it. Keep your head with all the elecatricals & wizzires. You'll have mad yo! better camz with your current head anyway. JDM EVOIII partnumber camz.

Wait what? The 1g 7bolt cams are better then the 90 cams? I know about the 7bolt head swap but was just going to use the 6bolt head since its a complete motor.

I was just told by some people that some sensors have to be swapped onto the older motor to plug into my stock harness and crap like that. But nobody gave me details.

The only difference that I can think of ATM is the oil filter housing. Air cooled vs. water cooled. The throttle body sensors, coilpack, fuel rail, and cas sensor, are different. If you use all your 94 parts this won't be a problem.

SWAP from the 94 to the 90 motor:

Throttle body
Fuel rail
CAS
Coilpack and Power Transistor
Oil filter housing

You will need the 6 bolt flywheel also.

Motor is coming with the oil filter housing and I already have an ext oil cooler. the 90. I will be swapping full intake manifold because mine is ported and I been working on polishing it...

If my 94 cams are better I'd definatelly swap. I do plan to swap the 1gb CAS since I heard it is better anyway. IS there a crank angle sensor? I heard that was supposed to be swapped out also...

Also the motor is coming with a flywheel also. Just gotta sell my fiandanza now.

I'm sure you know, but have you checked the waterpump, timing belt, and balance shaft belt? Is the hydraulic tensioner weeping? Use the best condition harmonic dampner.

You are reffering the to the Black topped CAS. If you have that, put it on. It uses a different sensor than the earlier years.

There is no crank sensor on a 1g 7 bolt, only cam angle sensors for all 1gs.

Yep! The 1990 cams are the least desirable. They have the lowest of the lifts and the exhaust cam has the same duration as the A/T cams and n/t cams. Unless you have an A/T 1Gb.

Every one knows that the 1Ga cams are the least desirable. And now we know that the evo3 cams part number is the replacement part for the 1g cams. Since they revised the 1g cams between a and b generations, I highly doubt they would use the old part for the 1g cam as the same as the evo3. So the cams you have are evo3 cams, if you have a m/t turbo. Regardles of whether an evo motor has your cams, you have a pair of cams with slightly more lift and the exhaust cam has more duration than the 1990-1991 cams.

1991 6bolts and 1992 6-bolts have the same oil cooling configuration as 7-bolt motors. So you say you have a 1990 motor, right? You'll need that 1990 OFH if you want to worry about the external oil cooler. And you already have that. If not, then you need the water pipe from your non-air-oil-cooler 4g63.

Great info there! Thanks....

I am running a NT Water Pipe For my T3/T4. Yes I do have the black top cas... well its red now LOL... I powder coated it.

So I'll swap my cams, run my ported 1g intake with the 94 tb and all those other sensors from my car originally. Swap the CAS.

Thanks a lot guys.

He's saying if you got a motor out of a FWD make sure you use your AWD tranny to block plate.

I forgot. The early 1990 head has an oil pressure relief for the oil feeding the lifter. This means that your BS elimination will no cause over pumping lifters. Although I don't think many have that problem to begin with.

Now we're getting into details that really don't matter too much. . .

I did a 6 bolt swap in my '93 and it's as simple as just swapping the block. Use your current 1g head. You don't need to swap it to the '90. The 1g 7bolt head and 2g 7 bolt head are nothing alike. You still have the large intake ports. You don't need to swap OFH either if you don't want to. Your stock oil cooler will bolt up to the 94 housing if you remove the 2 large alan caps and get the proper -an adapters. They're about $8 total.

Use the '90 head as a core for a ported head or sell it to a 2g guy.

Sorry, I don't feel like ruining a perfectly good head gasket to put on a head that must be modified to fit over the 6bolt head studs.

the 94 head will be better not to be swapped and to be sold to a 2g guy because it doesn't have to be modified since it still has the puny head studs. Also no need to swap the 94 OFH onto the 90 motor to use the Air/Oil Cooler, that's just idiotic when there's already a housing on there.

Also is there any info on the 90cams vs the 94cams cause a few of my DSM Buddies haven't seem to heard anything about it.

It's in the 1993 FSM and the 1990 FSM. You can see the difference in exhaust cam duration for the M/T cams. 252 total duration (0"/.004" lift)for both intake cams. But the 1990 exhaust cam has 248 total duration, while the 1993-1994 has 252. Do you have access to the A and B generation FSMs? I can get a picture of the pages on here later if you're still questioning this.

. . .OK. My 1990-1991 FSM states no degrees, just lift values WTF. I thought I saw a printing of the 1990-1991 cam degree specs. But regardless here's the cam degree for the "A" generation 1g. Below are the cam specs found in the 1992-1994 FSM published in 1993 by Mitsubishi Motors.

I recommend just looking on the back of the cams (the CAS side) and check the letters. Then you'll know exactly what you have.

Well being as you've done all your research and are asking some pretty basic questions I'm surprised you didn't get heavily flamed.

It's just a basic remove old motor and install new motor. Use black top CAS. (you'd do that on any 1G DSM) I personally don't care for the 90 oil cooler. I ran one for a while and it wasn't for me. Definitly make sure you use the right block to tranny plate. Either awd in a FWD or FWD in a AWD plate will really piss you off when you go to install your starter and it won't line up. You could as me why I know. :)

Also if you pull the oil pan it's a good idea to throw any the pan gasket and use "Right Stuff" RTV to seal the pan. It's nice to not have your oil pan leaking. And definitly use your 94 cams along with a new timing belt and tensioner. It's best to not guess on these and just replace them.
