60-1 turbo ..opinions....

ive been offered one of these for $600.00 with only 30 or so miles on it. what are the advantages and disadvantages of this turbo? what are the specs? Im going to go look at it tomorrow. thanks guys

Well its a big turbo. Im guesstimating somewhere around 550+whp capable. I know its pump gas friendly and it really REALLY pulls over 20psi (buddy has one on his). Im pretty sure if you wanna know what this turbo's made of you should really build your motor. You probably need DSMLINK or a standalone cause my buddy is runnin 850's. He see's full boost around 5k rpm or somewhere around there. But i think its a good deal and i fyou can pick up a big turbo for cheap id jump on it. Do you know if its a bolt on or do you need a garrett flange?

well damn. put things in perspective my evo 3 new was around 580+ w/ tax. you need a fair amount of other stuff to actually put the thing on your car but id say go for it. My friends car pulls harder at 10 psi than my evo 3 pulls at 16. But like i said, the point where that turbo makes mad power is around/over 20psi.

Edit: I just noticed its internally gated. Idk how that particular unit handles the int. wg, but look at any other big turbo and they have mad creep. Id say either port the sh#t out of everything or ditch the actuator and get an external wg.

Just a few hours ago I finished my friends setup with a 60-1. 90 GSX with basic mods. FMIC, fuel mods including 680s, fp cams. I've been fixing problems on it for weeks now, none of which were related to the turbo. Tonight I installed a gm 3.5bar and an AEM wideband and did some tuning with DSMLINK. I have a 2g with a 20g. His car hauls butt at only 20psi. Launches yielded much wheel spin. 60-90mph time is just under 4 sec with passenger. Timing was relatively good at 18 degrees. I'm impressed. There's still room to work with it. The afr averages out to about 11.0:1 up from the 9.5 when i first started. Tuning with a wideband and map sensor makes a pocketlogger look like junk, like tuning drunk.

Yes sir. Or sixty dash one. Alsto dont fp reds have 60 trim wheels which are a bit less " powerful " than the 60-1

No the Red is a 60-1. A 60 trim in its most common form is a 53lb/min turbo.

my 60-1 pulles a bit harder than my old 50 trim at the same boost (13 psi), i would suggest getting some good tuning tools and a wideband to bring out the full potential in a 60-1. and get an external gate too.
