y u no lik picnic in the park? :p

If people weren't such free-loaders, this the food part would be fantastic.

Oh, and I drive about 6 hrs to get there. I'm north of Pittsburgh. One year, I left at 4am one year to meet up with some people from Ohio on the PA Turnpike, and we cruised as group all the way to the meet.

Haha I like picnic with a naked stripper it's usually more romantic LOL but how about we get a wet t shirt contest going on it might get more interesting and it's not the drive i drive to meets all over to Ohio 7 hours and Maryland 4-5 it's just trying to get more people to show up I guess

hey man im the new guy here, its not my position to call the shots. I'm quite excited for this meet, just didnt want to come off as complaining.

Eh, everyone complains about everything, so I'm used to it. I try to take it more as constructive criticism instead of complaining.

Well that's why I made that reply so perhaps other members can chime in and throw some ideas around and see what we want to do together as a community perhaps meet at one location and take a nice long cruise not idiotically racing just a fun relaxed cruise to a different location perhaps a famous or nice restaurant and we can still have the food and bullshit would even get to meet more people if we all sit together and no one would have to worry about contributing with food and money because this way everyone buys their own food and we can also go to tracks perhaps island dragway again this would bring a lot more dsms from nj and ny and I'm just throwing ideas around so the meet can only get bigger and better if anyone else has any ideas please throw them around reply here and yeah I was definitely referring to next year not this year since the meet is already planned and all!!!

The issue with cruising is I don't get to talk to people, look at their cars, or ask questions. For example, last year I found an OEM coolant overflow bottle that will work on my car with a short route IC piping setup that also meets sanctioned racing requirements. If we did a cruise or race day, I probably wouldn't have figured this out and would still be trying to figure out how to build one. Not saying I don't like driving my car (which doesn't happen very often), but I can do that at any time, and don't really care to do it in a large group. If people want to cruise to/from the meet, which they often do, that's a great way to get that aspect into this meet.

Another thing people have often suggested in the past is going to an open track day at a drag strip. Me - I'm not a drag racer. Yes, I enjoy racing, but would much rather be turning my wheel. Plus, again, I don't get to talk to people as much if we do that. If people want to organize a separate meet (like we do on the link forums) for a drag day, then they're free to do that. Another reason I don't do that is because of how close it is to the Shootout. I have had a lot of people turn down even coming to the meet in the past because it was too close to that weekend. So I've pushed it back a few weeks, but don't want to push it by asking if people want to race.

Plus, I like the outdoors and the park is a relaxing spot for a lot of people as we can get away from everything (except the random people that roll through during the meet).

I'm in no way dissing anyone's suggestions but telling you my thought process and why I've done it this way over the past couple years. I'd be willing to bet if I made a road course meet at NJMP that a lot of people wouldn't come out. We all have our likes and dislikes, so I'm trying to keep it neutral.

You can by all means do this. Just keep in mind that in the past there's typically only a handful of girls that show up...unless you want to see Wes with a wet t-shirt :hmm:

It looks like I'm going to have to bow out.

I'm a groomsman in my boy's wedding, and his bachelor party is that weekend in Atlantic City. I don't know all of the details yet, still waiting for the best man to get back to me...but chances are we will be leaving together from DE...probably in a limo or something...I'm at least 1.5-2 hours from the meet and I just don't think I'll have time.

It sucks, because I really was looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing some really nice DSMs.

If all goes well I will have mine with me, so count me in :) I look forward to meeting a lot of you guys

can we also get an updated list going? as well as directions from I-95 N and S?

Ill attempt to make it out.. I just googled it and its only about an hour from me. Not bad at all. hopefully ill have my setup installed and tuned by then but its my daily so its a little hard to get enough time to work on it.

As far as classes goes i suggest cleanest engine bay, most junkyard mods, and best paint.. I bet I qualify for 2 of those 3.. LOL

Best Junkyard mods... ROFL

Brian,i prob will chip some $$ for a food, because im not 100% sure if ill show up,but if i will,i wont bring anything food wise, because ill be right after my buds(red evo guy) wedding party, so if something ill grab some drinks on the way.....

I think I've decided to just require everyone to chip in some money and I'll get all the food. With how few people have showed interest in it this year and the issues we've had in the past with less than 12 people bringing food, I'm thinking I'll be pulling teeth to have people help out.

If people don't want to chip in to help cover the food, then either don't show up or don't eat. I'm just starting to get a bit frustrated when people expect things but don't want to help out. This is not directed to anyone in particular in here, but just as an overall. I know there are a handful of people who have helped out in the past and I'm thankful for them.

If anyone coming wants to bring something, just let me know. But I'll plan on getting some burgers, hot dogs, buns, chips, water, and maybe a few other things.

I'll probably have to let people know later how much they'd need to contribute seeing as I don't know how much the food will cost.

Any issues with this?

Since I got to travel all the way from Schenectady area since I work upstate now I rather put in some $$$ than bring food, unless me, & my friends bring beer?

I'm not encouraging drinking & driving!

That sounds fair to me. Just let us know what the dollar amount is a few days before. Also, since I am around the area I can help you get some things together. Just PM me if you need anything, since im only about 20 mins away from ridley state park :)

Brian, your plan suits the situation.

Even though your option to bring the appropriate items yourself appears to be the best idea, it is unfortunate that you singly have to handle the gathering this way. Nevertheless, I believe that this option will reduce the hassles that have occurred during past gatherings, and I think that it will ensure that the event proceeds more smoothly. Continuing to have an unrestricted gathering would be great, yet past experiences illustrate that, in my opinion, you should place simple guidelines and structure on the gathering.

If you guys want to have the fun car show, I'd appreciate if everyone tried to come up with a few categories to help me out. I'd like to see what you guys want to see the cars voted on - some can be serious and some be fun. Just keep in mind that the categories need to be generic enough so that we can actually consider more than 2 cars for each one. So if everyone could put up a list of their top 3-5 categories they'd like to see, I can then choose which ones are the most popular as well as the most creative/unique/fitting.

Please assume we'll have a generic category of "Best in Show" which everyone will vote for their favorite car.

Go!

Marking on my calendar!

Some suggestions:

1) Best in show (as you mentioned)
2) Best Engineered
3) Best Panty Dropper
4) Best Find (clean and original - low miles?)
5) Cleanest Engine Bay
6) Most likely to be sold on Craigslist for $500 (just for fun, should have to enter - we don't want to actually insult anyone)
