brother just bought a 91 eagle talon tsi.

has :
FMIC with short route pipe
255 FP
450cc injectors
3"tbe

it feels like fuel cut at 5k? and he is only running 11 lbs stock, Boost leak maybe??

it doesn't spudder up to 5k it acclerates smooth.

Do a boost leak test. I'm betting there is a large one.

Is there an AFPR? You'll need one with a fuel pump that large. Also, what injectors are you using, and when were they last replaced? What are they gapped at? What spark plug wires?

no afpr, stock 450cc injectors, um not sure when the plugs were last replaced/ gapped.

could it maybe be a bad ECU if boost leak test checks out good?

I doubt it's the ECU.

Do the BLT first. That's the most likely culprit. Then change the plugs with NGK BPR6ES gapped to .028". Get the rest of the basic maintenance done on it. Even if things look "new", start fresh that way YOU know the maintenance intervals.

ok it just had a head gasket change a few months ago. and 500 miles on recent oil change,

oh and one more thing... it idle surges Really bad untill its warmed up completely like 900-1300 surges? idea?

first off fuel cut = the feeling of hitting a brick wall. The cars ecu for a moment cuts you off because your running way to rich. You are just having fuel related issues/boost leak.

First get some bigger injectors, you have a large fuel pump, but nothing to do with it...

Replace plugs and wires, always first thing you should do when buying a turbo car or any car for that nature. Then check for a boost leak if the problem still occurs.

Research what fuel cut actually is.

Bigger injectors aren't needed until the OP decides to increase the boost/timing, or has something to tune/log with. Without those things, he really WILL run rich. (But that still won't cause fuel cut.)

well, i was wondering if adding a MAF-T would clear up the pop at 5k? maft slightly tunes air/fuel right?

im going to do a BLT today. and check the plugs. ill report back later.

You can tune to an extent with a MAF-t setup. Will it clear your pop? Maybe. Depends on what's causing it. Let's find out what you discover today before throwing parts at it.

Does your brother have an aftermarket boost gauge?

If he does check if the boost starts to creep up past 15 psi.

so found a problem, the gasket for the J pipe was not put on correctly and it was letting out massive amount of air. maybe that might help a little?

still havent done a BLT yet... buying the parts tomorrow. does anyone know the size for the 14b turbo cold side? like 1 1/2" ? cause he got a 2" and it was quite big...

My car wouldn't climb above 5k for awhile actually. Turned out to be a huge boost leak. Once that was fixed she goes right up to 7k without any problems.

Make sure all couplers are in good shape, no cracks, tears anything. Also I Use a 8mm socket to tighten my couplers rather than a screwdriver. Just give that a shot and you can make a boost leak tester for like 5 bucks or so if you need one. Use a compressor not a hand pump.
