4th won't engage

So I was driving home last night and 4th gear took a dump. I shifted into 4th and had power for a second or two but then it went. An ungodly rattling noise came with it too. Every other gear is working just fine except 4th. Any ideas?

Rattling could well something is broken or damaged if you hear noise coming from transmission, sounds internal. If you have no 4th gear very likely damage.

Yeah that's about the best way I could describe the rattle. Sounds like something floating around in the tranny

Just got home and now I have a ton of tranny fluid on the garage floor...

Sounds like a seal is bad possible input shaft, time for a rebuild.
