Saskatoon,
Alright, I need a DSM jedi to answer a couple questions.

I just found out that I have a 4G67 1.8 DOHC engine in my Talon. Obviously the motor was swapped in before I bought it. I have researched and found that the US Hyundai Elantra from 93-95 came with a version of the 4g67 but all these motors had Hyundai right on the valve cover, mine says Mitsubishi 16 valve on the cover which came on the JDM 4G67. Somebody could have easily switched the covers around, but is there anyway to tell if mine is a JDM motor?

Also does anyone know if the 4G67 came in a 6 or 7 bolt, or how I could tell the difference? Also the 1.8 in my car was running off a 2.0 N/A ECU, the difference between the 4G67 and 4G63 is that the 4G67 has a smaller bore/piston combo by 3.5mm, I ran this car for a whole year and I didn't even notice it was a 1.8. The two motors look identical except for the engraving on the block.

My last question, how could a 2.0 ECU run the 1.8 engine? I drove the car for a whole year and it ran fine. Being a newb this situation is blowing my mind.

Ok from what I looked up that this motor is better than the 4g63 because it revs harder and gets a lot better pull in 3rd to 4th gear but all and all the two motors are very similar just the 1.8 is JDM from the article I read.

This motor came in 1993-1998 Elantra but the engine code that they use is G4GB for 96-00 and 93-95 it's G4CN what's the difference you say more and likely the emissions change.

The 4g67 is a Mitsubishi motor and from what I have read it seems to have a 6 bolt crank. So this should help you out.

The 4G67 runs off 210cc injectors with a smaller combustion chamber while the 4G63 NA runs off 240cc's with a bigger combustion chamber. It's not a perfect match but it's in the ballpark for the 2.0 ECU to make corrections to the fuel and ignition map. If you want it to be perfect get a DSMLink and tune it on a dyno. Difference between the Hyundai G4CN and the 4G67 is that Hyundai's have "Hyundai" on the valve cover while Mitsus have "Mitsubishi", no other difference. And yup, it's a 6 bolter.

It's a long shot since this is post from 2006 but anyway i have done same thing for my 1g Eclipse and now have 4g67 1.8 DOHC. What ECU number did you use to get it running nice?

You pretty much have to swap the ECU. Although the 4g37 (1.8L) and 4g63 (2.0L) have similarities, the computers are mapped differently. My best advice is to get the proper ECU to run your engine.
