I picked up an already machined 4g64 7 bolt from a 98 galant. I wasn't able to get the original set of Manley pistons that the block was machined to.

Here's my question.

I had my local machinist check everything out and with the current measurements using the 87mm Manley pistons it would give me a piston to wall clearance of .0055. I've spoken to Manley and they are recommended .0035. I've done some searching and found mixed answers so I am posting it here.

My plan is for around 600whp on E85 and an 86hta. Will the .0055 be too loose or should I get the pistons coated by someone like Swaintech and have the number reduced down to around .0040.

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't run less than .0050 on a 600 WHP E85 car on a 2.0 (Let alone a 2.4)

.0055 may have a little slap when its cold (Doubt it) but I would run it as is.. its perfect in my opinion.
