ok guys well, he has a 95 eclipse gsx but totaled it from the rear end, it has a brand new engine and tranny and he was wondering if it would be possible to swap it into a 97 eclipse rs 420a body?

you can, but it's a lot of work, you can even do the awd swap on it to if the rear end is still good. Go for it if you have good welding skills and fab skills i guess. check out 2gnt.com , they might help you more

yes everything is still good, the rear end. he just smashed up the rear fender and side panel and just wants a new shell, i know it would be alot of work. im guessing the rear end would not mount up the same?

or he will just have a fwd.

Well the whole car is in awful condition body, paint, interior, suspension, Its just a good motor and tranny with some mods. i wanted to know if the bodys were steup the same if i can swap motors an drive train w/out alot of fab work.

so is the body layout the same as far as mounts and what not or am i wasting my time thinking about this.

how about putting that 4g63 into a nice little colt or mirage? you've already had an eclipse/talon. if you still want an eclipse, then just swap the engine over to be a FWD and now you've still got a good car.

I'm doing exactly that same thing but I do have to say the Mirage isn't nearly as nice to drive on a daily basis. I guess that's what you get for the extra 800 lbs of weight. The improved power to weight ratio might make up for the loss of comfort though :)

Just look for a gsx shell. There not to hard to come by, atleast around here. It sucks that you live in washington because theres a guy out here on craigslist selling a gsx shell for $300.

It's alot of work to do the swap from N/A to turbo. In the end its just easier and in most cases cheaper to buy a turbo shell. With all the fab work and welding its just deemed not worth it. They may look the same from the exterior but they are really two different cars.

no, the bodies are the same, i'm doing a awd swap on a 2g right now, it has the tunnel and all, just some welding and dropping in bolts and the rear end bolts right up. The problem is the motor mounts up front which you can weld in. I don't know much in depth about the project, but like stated above, just get a gsx shell or just part it out.....

dibs on the awd passenger rear knuckle? how about tranny? :D
