An Evo, a 4g eclipse..you know, oem equipped? I'm glad you like your little paint job, just don't get defensive when people comment, you asked for thoughts so I shared mine

No defensiveness here. I was just confused by what you meant. I personally don't feel that I should have to buy a $40,000 hyped up version of my car just to have modern styling. The Eclipse is a timeless body style so I see no harm in giving it a face lift from time to time. Surely you wouldn't cringe at Evo rims on a DSM, right? Becuase that's not OEM... But thanks for the thoughts. :)

Lol owned....

Nice job WES. I definitely like that you thought outside the box. Plus, for anyone in the future who would wonder about ideas like this, it's always nice to have someone who's already done it so they can get a good idea of what it's like. :thumb:

Doesn't look bad, what might look better is throwing on a silver lip? Just a thought. Oh and a big old front mount

Has anyone done this with plasti-dip? My front bumper is pretty beat up at the bottom so i think doing some kind of design with black would cover it up/ accent the smoked out lights. The reason i say plasti-dip is because i know how easy it is to remove if you f* up and really wouldnt want to do a permanent paint job.
Also, how much paint would this require? A plastidip can is 11oz so... 2 cans to be safe or just one?

2 cans of plastidip would do. You'd be surprised at how far 1 can could go. And OP, I personally like it. Gives it that Evo/Stormtrooper look. Looks a little crooked though. Good job though, props!

Thanks for the compliments. It is a very slightly crooked in spots (I just eye-balled the tape) but I will be going over it again soon thanks to these lovely Colorado roads. :( I'm not sure a FMIC will ever be in the works since it's a NT 4g64.

I used Rust Tough Enamel. I would have rather used a higher quality Lacquer, but I really like how well the Rust Tough has held up in the past. I cleaned the area with Grease & Wax remover, sanded with some 1000, cleaned again, and then sprayed 2 light and one wet coat. No clear, just gloss black.

Awesome, i might end up doing this myself. Had the idea before to cover up a spot in the paint, but didn't know how it would look.

Also might try plasti-dip. Apparently it's some miracle paint :hmm:

Great idea and not a bad look. I'd use some 3M blue fine line tape next time. Real easy to use and comes off with a clean edge. Lay that down to get the clean edge and the green tape to mask it off with your paper. I've used it on tons of cars before I switched careers and my only compliant was it would alway grow legs and walk off on me.

Plasti Dip would be a good idea. It's cheap, easy to put on, and peels off when you don't want it. My only suggestion would be to get the "Glossifier" so the Plasti Dip is glossy and not Matte.

I'm kinda diggin' the matte look. If say the side mirrors, wheels, and the tail/side markers were matte black, it would look pretty incredible.

I'm not really a fan of 4g Eclipses or anything, but I think you did a swell job on the bumper! You should have did a guide for others on the site who may want to do this! :p

I was looking for a guide to painting a bumper and stumbled upon this thread. I enjoyed it ^.^ Good Job!
