I agree with Widow, chrome does not look good on our cars. There are only a select few that I have seen and actually liked. I dont even like chrome GST wheels.

im not a fan either. dsm's and chrome do not mix

In an earlier post, last year, I photoshoped a set of 17 inch 4G wheels on the same car. This is the result.

Was not particularly impressed then but when, a few months later, I came accross a set of 4G wheels, with good tires, for only $127 I just couldn't resist. In order to get the rears to fit I had to use 5mm spacers to clear the suspension knuckles. These are the painted wheels, not chrome. This is what the car looks like with the actual wheels, not photoshoped. It looks almost identical to the photoshoped version.

I was pleased to find that, even with the spacers installed, the lug nuts still engaged 11 threads on the wheel studs. For safety purposed, a minimum of 5-8threads is usually recommended. With the 4G wheels installed, the ride seemed to improve. However, this probably due to the newer tires and greater tread depth. Appearance wise, I don't think it is an improvement over the stock wheels but I may just switch between the two when I get bored with the current look. I do the same thing with my C5 Corvette which presently has C6 wheels.

So I'm going to go out on a limb and say these need spacers in the rear? Or is that a hit and miss deal? I had 18x8 w/ a 40 offset and 225/40/18 tires so I'm assuming a set of the 4G wheels measuring at 17x7.5 w/ a 46 offset and 225/50/17 tires should leave at least 5 mm of space from the above mentioned setup.

sorry had to get my 2 cents in sorry guy but i got a set of zinic sofin b chrome rims on my 2g talon tsi , white with black top and black trunk and this combo looks frigin sweeeeeeeeeeeet i will post some pics soon as i get them seeing my car is in the shop right now for a clutch change but should have it back soon

Since I have these installed on my car I'll add to this now. I, without a doubt, need spacers in the rear as well. The left rear is touching the control arm and the right rear is just about touching it. Now I am also taking into consideration that I haven't had an alignment in five years. But I'm probably going to slap on some 5 mm spacers and call it a day. Longer studs are not needed at that length correct?
