420a swap to 4g63

Lol! Your looking at a LOT more then a rewire. You want a 4g63, just save your money and buy a GST/GSX! GOOD LUCK!

Due to engine orientation under the hood of the 420A, you'd be better off trying to swap in an Evo version of the 4g63 or 4g64. I'm planning on getting a non-turbo 2G just to do that swap, eventually...

Many people talk about this but for the first time i saw a journal of someone actually doing it. Like mentioned above, its a whole lot more work than just the wiring. I also saw an old thread of someone swapping in an evo 8 4g63 in a 420a eclipse, but after months he stopped updating his process. Which made me think he wasn't able to pull it off.:ohdamn:

I honestly wanted to do this... But it honestly is too much work... Find the engine... buy the engine... fix the engine... remove the entire engine... weld somethings in the engine to make the turbo engine work... drop the engine in... rewire and move everything around... too much time wasted and to much money invested...

Best thing I would do is find a car on Craigslist ( Evo / GST / GSX ) part out car and work from there...

That is what I would do, but people have their own preferences...

Good luck with your decision! :dsm:

im still kind of new to all the dsm stuff . forgive me but what are the differences bet wend the evo engine and the eclipse engine i see it sets in the engine bay the same as the 420a

ps i know there is alot more to this swap than just wiring

as far as the post im looking for he had already started welding the mounts in but that's all i remember seeing

The evo engine doesn't just bolt in. I wish people would quit saying that, it has been proven time and time again. You will need to make your own mounts in order to get either engine to work. It is a lot of work and will cost you more than just buying a running turbo car.

well i never said that it would just bolt in i stated it sets in the engine bay the same way have there been alot of dsm 6 cylinder swaps ?

FWIW and for sake of ease, you'd be better off doing a 6g73 swap from a 3g eclipse or stratus/sebring. 2g+6g73 I'd imagine a 6g72 twin turbo could be swapped in, too, but don't quote me.

Hey there I don't wish to sounds special or anything...

But is there anything special about a 3rd gen Eclipse engine?

6g73 is a 2.5 liter v6 at around 160 horsepower. not worth it imo.
6g72 single cam is a 3.0 liter v6 at around 205 horsepower, slightly more worth it... but you're making an already front heavy car even more front heavy.
6g72 twin turbo wont fit. without major modifications. its just too big.
4g63 will fit in, but you need to be very good at welding, and understand it will probably take you the better part of 2 years, or more. i'm doing that exact swap, and i'm a year and a half or so in.
this thread does a very good job of explaining whats needed when it comes to the welding

Thank you kind Sir. You're a gentleman and a scholar! :hellyeah:

WHY.

Give me a good reason why you think this is even a good idea? The car already exists in that form? Honestly I dont think 1 person would even give you props for that Conversion swap because its not a swap.. smh...

Yeah I wouldn't give props... I don't see anything worth swapping if it isn't a turbo'd engine....

Buy a Turbo'd car... End of discussion!

I would go ahead and make it RWD instead if you're going through all that work and fabrication.

The turbo and n/a 2g's are basically different cars -- the turbo a Mitsubishi and the n/a a Chrysler. I could see this being an option back years ago when 2G's were worth a lot, but not now when you can buy a decent turbo one for a couple grand or less. I would get one that needs an engine or something, you can get those dirt cheap.

Craigslist for 1k - 4k :thumb:

A car part out or something , people usually get desperate when they need money and just sell it quick
