So i'm fairly new to this whole DSM thing and i'm in the middle of doing a transmission swap and I was curious if our transmissions have a pilot bearing. I haven't been able to find anything on it and I don't want to put everything together just to take everything back out in case there is a pilot bearing I wasn't aware of. If I could get an answer that would be greatly appreciated!

None of the 420a models have a pilot bearing. Although the 95 has a different clutch setup, it sill uses the same input shaft as all other year models.
I only had a few minutes to research this, since 420a is unfamiliar to me I was hoping someone else would jump in. Either way, Thanks for the question because I learned something interesting today. I found out that some early 95s had regular clutches, but after that they started using modular clutches that come as an assembly. You’ll want to inspect your 95 model for what parts you’ll need before you order them. I found one mention of the lack of a pilot bearing. I think it would be best to go thru the service manual to verify this. I’ll link the resource thread.

I hate to send you off site, but it seemed like I found a bit more info on 2gnt.com

From my experience usually manual cars do not have pilot bearings. My 95 rs m/t, 95 esi m/t and my dads 99 gs m/t didn’t have any.

Neither of my 4g cars do either both m/t. Only ever seen one 4g motor I bought have one in it. After searching is when I seen only a/t require the pilot bearing.
