so. i currently drive a 98 talon ESi with 224,000km on it. although there are a lot on it, it's mostly highway driving for work and i have taken care of it so it is still a solid motor. here's my question....this winter i'd like to buy myself a truck and start a DSM project car....now i know the AWD models are way better. but motor wise. which is a more solid motor rebuilt with a turbo? Just because i know my car is in really good condition so wouldn't need any body work or anything....

i'd just like to hear some opinions on if people had to use between a FWD turbo motor if it would be the 4g63 or the 420a?

any motor can be rebuilt far a certain purpose and be "solid". as far as the 420a and 4g63 go. i would definitely go with the 4g63 just for the simple fact that there are an insane amount more parts available for it vs the 420.

If you are going to build a turbo car, mine as well use what you have since your going to build it. But IF you haven't started yet, sell what you got and get an AWD before you put a bunch of $ into a fwd and later wish you'd had an awd to put the power down

If you want a good project sell your NT and find a turbo model with a clean body. It will be worth it.

sorry bout putting another post up like this. i did "420a vs 4g63" and after going to numerous post could not find one. guess i didn't dig old enough.

okay so if i pick up an AWD model. I know how to check body parts and such to see if a whole car is in good shape but can i save myself some money and look for one with a blown motor to rebuild as long as there isn't a hole in the block? because I want to rebuild the whole block so not too worried if it isn't running to begin with.
