I was driving down the road and my car was not going above 4k rpm so when I got to a red light I reved the 2gnt and the car cut off does anyone know what's going on I was told it was the timing belt but I really don't know if it is how can tell if I broke a valve? Thanks for any help

It could be your catalytic converter is clogged. Also a cylinder compression test is a quick way to see if your valves are alright.

Is the car an auto or manual? Was the check engine light on? I'm going to assume the car was missing/stuttering at idle, which is why you rev'ed it up.

It's an auto and I reved the car thinking it would help and my timing belt is not broke it still there but I heard if the timing belt slip it breaks valves

Is it throwing cel's as well. Dont 420a's have problem with cam or crank sensor physically breaking.

I would start with a compression test. It's not hard to do and will give you a relative life span of your motor.

Correct me if I am wrong but aren'1 420A motor non-interferance? If the timing belt slipped I dont believe they drop the valve enough to hit the piston?

No 420a is an interference motor like a 4g63. Check to make sure your t-belt didn't slip and timing marks are right on.

yes if the timing belt slips you can bend possibly all the intake valves the exhaust ones wont bend.i have had 3 cars with the 420a and its common to bend valves if a valve is bent open far enough the pistion may not be able to rotate wich is why it wont crank.your tensioner may have went bad.if you cant crank for a compression test then i would just take off the head and inspect every thing.

Ok sorry for any mis-information I thought I had read somewhere when I had my 420A it was a non-interferance. As stated above check your timing marks and go to your local auto store and check for any codes it may have thrown in the paste and if your check engine light is on what code has set it.

My first 420a turbo motor broke the timing belt at 80mph and the valves weren't bent. Had it towed to the mitsu dealership and it took them 4 hrs and the car ran better then it did before it broke.
