420a head removal

OK so here it is, i have a 4g63 and i could probably take the head in no time but i went over to my uncles house to help him with is daughters 97 nt automatic the head gasket is fried and nedds changed but i have no idea how to get the head off i wouldnt have thought it would have been any harder than my car but i am at a loss how do you get the motor mount off of the car on the passanager side it will not come off with the bolts loose theres not enough room to get it out i need someone to tell me how to get the head off of that thing does the engine have to come out of the car is there any techs about this please help

I never thought that that mount was much of a problem, you have to remove the overflow resevoir, use a hydraulic jack to jack up the oil pan or other part of the passenger side of the motor to releive the pressure on the mount, take the bolts attaching to the motor half of the mount out and then pull the bolt that attaches the mount to the frame. It's a lot of work to do the head gasket on the car, i just did it and it took me probably 16-18 hours , but then again i dropped the throttle cable bolt down the oiling hole of the head so I had to pull the oil pan to get that out so it took longer then it should have, the crank pulley can be quite a pain too, its best to have a gear puller and torch handy!!

Yea you have to relieve the pressure on the mount....but trust me thats the least of your worries....youll have the hardest time getting the damn crank pulley off. I had to take mine to a machine shop because the guy before me broke off one of the places where the puller attaches so good luck
