Hey i seen some post on this and was wondering if it would be better to remove the cyl. head with the engine out or can i still go about doing it while everything is inside. the reason why I'm asking this is because i trashed my block about a year ago and now just got a chance to finially have time to work on it since I'm done with my e30 build. also i was wondering how to take off the plastic timing belt cover with out removing the engine. So i ask for help for you DSM n/t guru's

I really don't Know but, I am removing the cyl heads on my 420 in the car Info is great but limited. In my opinion it's probably easier out of the car.

Personally if your yanking the motor Id do it outta the car the plastic cover on the 420a is a pita to take off with out breaking it. Just my opinion though had to fight alot in pt cruisers which is the 2.4. Remember cam gears have to come off first before the rear cover if you do decide to do it in car, they are pretty damn easy actually.

I find it hardest to remove the engine mount bolts. I removed the passenger side and front engine mounts so I could jack the engine up enough to get the pita bolts out. After that, it is pretty standard procedure.

I am in the process of removing the cyl heads (in the car) I am removing the heads to have them rebuilt. the Plastic timing cover is a pain. I don't have a cherry picker..so removing the driver side motor mount would be a better solution? I plan to keep that cover off..( I feel like breaking it off )

Never knew the 420A had multiple cylinder heads. Mine only seems to have one.

ok.. I never said i have 2 cyl heads..

Oh my bad I used it in a plural context...WOW

i pulled my head outta the car also. make sure you get them annoying intake manifold bolts on the back side of th eblock! i spend an hour trying to figure out why it wouldnt come off but dsm tuners cleared taht up for me :) and the valve cover should unbold from you head theres 2 bolts holding it on i think? been awhile sense i did it
