Which cylinder heads will interchange with the 420A head in my son's 97 Talon? I have tried the search feature and either I am so inept it doesn't return the right answer(highly likely) or this is a question that hasn't come up previously( I doubt that). His head is lunched, it holed number one piston and destroyed the combustion chamber. He failed to torque the timing belt when he replaced it, just tightened the tensioner and thought it was good. 21 Ft pounds must be critical on these.
Thanks, Chip.

Um... a cylinder head from an Avenger will work. That's about all I know of... Neon heads won't work at all.

Do you have any pics? I'm curious as to just what happened, how so, and the ending results.

I will try to get some pics tonight. My world jus got a little jacked up just now. Don't ever take a check for a vehicle, cash only, not even cashier's check. I am buying a pen for checking bills and dealing only in cash from now on. Sold a truck to a guy Saturday, established business account with purchasers name on it. His bank won't honor the check, insufficient. He has the truck, I have the title and a bad check.

Okie dokie...pics it is

I am really liking the "simplicity" of these cars, if you follow the procedures. Just by not torquing the timing belt, it jumped time and did a buttload of damage.

It's not hard to follow directions...interference engine ftmfw!!!

Avenger
eclipse
neon rt or magnum with dohc engine
Pt cruiser
sebring
stratus
MINI Cooper? Head might be the same, block is shorter
A couple of dodge / cyrysler vans
Dodge caliber

Probably a few others, just check to make sure the exhaust is on the front.
It this doesn't help than look for 4 cylinder world engines. The 420a is a 2.0 world engine, the blocks change size, the heads do not.

umm, please don't spread misinformation on this forum :boring:

Why say something like make sure the exhaust is in the front? If it doesn't come from the factory that way, what's he gonna do...turn it around? I'm assuming he can just grab any of those heads, and they'll bolt right up huh.

Thanks, my previous post regarding the simplicity wasn't aimed at the cars. It was meant to say if you follow procedure these cars are easy to maintain. My son failed to follow procedure the last time he had the head off. I think he had it apart four times. We finally broke down and bought all new valves for it and it was purring like a kitten with a bunch of bumblebees behind it. He put 250 miles on it and it jumped time and bent the valves on number one cylinder and destroyed the piston. The cylinder is unscathed. This time we rebuild it and he doesn't work on it if I am not right there. Who knows when that will be though.

Those may share a block, but he was asking about the head. Only 420a heads from a Mitsubishi platform will work with us.

2gnt Eclipse and Talon, Avenger and Sebring.

roffle waffles...

Why put the guy down locke, all of those heads are perfectly useful to us

Oh yeah, and the 2.0 World engine (such as used in the new Caliber) is a completely different motor.

This is what happens when you don't put 21ft lbs on the timing belt before tightening the tensioner.

He supposedly wasn't running the guts out of it. The carnage makes me think differently.

good lord! You can see plain as day where the valves made contact but the severity of it makes me wonder if there was more to it LOL.
