Hey all DSM'ers! I have a problem with my 420a engine. Here recently I had my valve seals replaced due to smoking and spontanious engine noises. Well after it was fixed, my car drove good for about a month, then a wire got touced in the fuse box under the hood (no idea how???) but it made it "jump" when I turned the car off, and now when i drive about 20minutes or more it starts to smoke like a clearish white smoke when I take off frome a idle, up to about 3rd gear, then stops. When it smokes i can hear a slight rattling sound and it loses a lot of power. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Where is the smoke coming from, if exhaust the white smoke is due to a liquid being burned in the combustion chamber- head gasket blown, if the smoke is coming from under the hood could be liquid being burned on the motor or trans( steam?) First i would check the 710/oil and see if there is coolant in the oil and then check the coolant to see if there oil in there. Then do a compression test.

its coming out of the exhaust, i thought it was a head gasket but shouldnt it be doing it all the time? and theres nothing mixed anywhere and it doesnt get hot at all,

What did the wire run that touched and short out?

What do you mean by "jump?" Like skipped time? Cause that's what it sounds like it did... but with disastrous results. You've got to be burning something somewhere, though.

Head should be check for flatness when taken off for any matter and more then likely will need to be machined. Could be the cause for the smoke

sounds like your getting nocking and pinging and your motor jumps when you turn it off.You should find out if all your fuses are ok (under the hood and under the dash). If you shorted out a ECU wire,I dont think your problem would be mechanical.check ,check ,and double check your wiring before you pull your head.:ohdamn:Do you know what wire got shorted out?Follow it.Where does it go?
