oh okay thanks man ill check it out i mean i am in no hurry to have it built i bought another stock engine so i can still drive the eclipse around while i get the 420a engine built out but yah ill check it out and might just use some of your build if you would be okay with it

you can also upgrade to a cold air intake for your car that you're driving now, Thats cheap and simple HP. I would just find a 4g63 and a gst or gsx shell. IMO its not worth "building" the 420a. Use the RS for your MPG's

Stock rebuild is best way to go, any power adders like intake header exhaust not worth the money to power ratio. Have fun rebuilding it tho.

yah i mean even if it doesnt have a turbo which i was never planning on doing anyway i can always throw some cams and what not in just to add some hp you know i mean dont get me wrong i love racing i just dont have time for it so id rather just make my first dsm nice looking great sounding and stuff but thanks for all the tips and confidence i post some more pictures up tommorw thanks guys!

If u dnt wna go turbo go with sum high compression pistons, deccent set of cams, cold air intake, header an exhaust system, it wld bump the hp up a deccent bit plenty for what what it sounds like ## tryin to do, good luck hope it turns out good for ya

I completely disagree with clipto, a 30 dollar cold air intake kit that I bought off ebay was a noticeable HP and acceleration increase...and 30 bucks for 10-15 HP and a noticeable power increase is definitely a good money to power ratio. I built my RS in my avatar when I was 14 years old, 7 years ago now. So, I didnt really know about the 4g63 motor, I just wanted a "need for speed" car LOL

You did not pick up 10-15HP even at the crank, never mind the wheels from your silly intake pipe kit. Put it on a dyno with the stock box, switch to the fleabay intake pipe and do it again. The difference is minimal.

OP, do your maintenance and a stock rebuild.

Then either sell it or keep it as a DD and buy a 4G63 DSM.

Don't listen to the guy with the blaze orange non-turbo F&F special talking about fictional power gains. :banghead:

haha i really appreciate all the help guys and ill keep all the info but for now till i get my job this summer the car will be all for sound and looks then ill go for the motor but i dont want alot of hp i wont be racing it i just want something that has noticable power and i mean you have to have a cold air intake its the simpliest bolt on out there and i know if your kucky you might get a couple hp gain

like i was telling you before theres alot of directions you can go. if you want a good sounding 420a car that your going to stick with for a while do the basics. who cares this is your learning experience and yes you could buy another eclipse thats turbo but you have stated your happy with your 97 now. with that cash i would get a cold air intake, header, full exhaust, underdrive pulley and bore the throttle body to about 55mm. with that i think you would be happy with the car and still be reliable. it gives it a little bit more power since there is less restrictions on the engine. it will sound way better depending on the exhaust you choose. just email me again if your curious on any brands or parts.

shoot me a message anytime. and landspeed is right do a compression test and make sure your timing belt is in good shape along with the timing componets, oil change on the engine/trans. but with the bolt ons you want to do, as long as the engine doesnt smoke and sounds healthy it should effect the life of the car anymore then leaving it stock.

Well the intake is always good to get. I will tell you my story and this is not the first time saying on here. My first car was a 420a I got intake, exhaust, and greddy header. Spent like $1000 was super waste of money rather of kept it stock it's still only a little 4 banger will heavy chassis. I then turboed it ebay 50 trim style and the motor blew becuase couldnt hold the power I then dumped money and built the motor. 2 months after that my sister crash and totaled it so I never really got that far with it. But in the end it was alot money but my main saying is the non turbo upgrades are not worth it unless you got the money go for it just don't expect alot. Cuzz a k20 civic can come flying buy and ruin your day LOL. but have fun.

There should be some dyno maps before and after CAI install. I could tell a difference, the car responded better.

I sense a little jealousy coming from you "Landspeed dsm", Im sorry that you're stuck with an god awful ugly 1G ;)

hahahaha OMG burnnn!!!

;)

Just spend money on making the car more driver friendly.
You can pick a turbocar when you can afford it. It looks to me like they're getting cheaper every day.

If you are sticking non-turbo, check out Megasquirt. Do an internet search. It is a DIY fuel injection controller, like your stock computer, but only for the engine. It is tuneable/programmable, unlike your stock computer, with a laptop. This is an advanced DIY modification though, so doing your research is key/vital. With some basic mechanical skills, some basic understanding of electronics, the ability to understand and follow written directions, and some patience, you will be able to assemble and install this. There is also extensive documentation and pre-run programs available to help you tune. You can also get preassembled from a few sources. This is the first mod you should do, if staying all motor. At about the same price, but less tuneable is the AF/X computer upgrade. Send them your computer, they make it programmable, it will teach itself what mods you have done via sensor inputs, and adjust fuel and spark accordingly. Of course, both of these are expensive and maybe not geared towards beginners, but two good areas to begin to do some research on.
