I currently own a 99' Eclipse GS with 203,000 miles on it. I have redone the head on the car sometime ago, and recently did a compression test on each cylinder. All three cylinders except for cylinder #2 read 180 pounds. Cylinder #2 was nearly half of that. First off, what kind of compression should a 420a engine be running as far as psi goes. Also, how can I determine if I have a burnt valve or cooked piston rings without taking the head off? I often smell unburnt gas when the vehicle first starts, and its evident that there is compression being lost due to the sound of my motor. Any help and replies would be highly appreciated! THANK YOU!
