Hey guys, now I've looked around and I'm still confused. Here's the story.
I am currently without a license because of a rather outstanding speeding ticket. Anyway it was suspensed for 13 months and I now have about a 2 months untill I get it back. So I decided I would pull out the motor to fix a small oil leak that has been bugging me since I bought the car, and change the timing belt and clutch; while I have it out.

So the question is, what exactly is a "modular clutch"? how do I change it? And what do I need?

And also, what clutch do you recommend?

Thanx a lot guys:dsm:

There is nothing done to the car, and I don't realy plan to anytime soon. I just need a good reliable clutch that will last a while, because I'm going to be commuting about an hour to school starting September. And maybe something good enough to race my friends on the weekends.

Simply put, A modular clutch is one-piece that includes flywheel, clutch disc, and pressure plate. It's usually riveted together.

If your staying stock nt, and just looking for a near OEM replacement, but one you can slip to 'race' your buddies?

SPEC Stage 2
or if you're planning to bolt-on a bunch of things later, you can do what I did.
SPEC Stage 3+ modular clutch w/ Street disc

It's better to do it once rather than a bunch of times.

Any suggestions on where to buy from?

Although I haven't had experience with a wide variety of vendors... I'd say call Chris at maperformance.com (1-(651)592-9018). He's a good guy and will try and get you running with what you need. I received my clutch 3-4 days after I ordered. ;D

There's plenty of vendors, lots of which actually have accounts here on DSMtuners.com, I'm not sure if anyone really updates the section, but there is a vendors section for our 420a powered cars. Good luck

Just a note to you if your going to install the clutch yourself... When you receive the clutch in the mail, be very careful with the throw out bearing! You'll see what I mean ;D

Definitely go with SBC. If you plan on a few mods here and there the Rally is right up your alley.(didn't mean to rhyme!) I've got the Rally on my car so if you do decide to boost, the rally can handle it.

For the difference between modular and non mod check this out on 2gnt.com;

http://www.2gnt.com/index.php?d=Non Modular VS Modular Clutch

If you want a good, stronger than stock, clutch set-up that is relatively inexpensive, get the PT Cruiser clutch. Has a little more clamp force.

If you are looking to make some power (say turbo etc.) then go with Andy at SBC.

Not to be a ass or anything, but even as a new member we gotta get you into the habit of searching. We've got a forum specifically for the 420a drivetrain, and I know if if you go in there you'll find like 10 threads relating to this problem.

However I do like the question of "what is a modular clutch", and it was answered very well by disguinshed members.

I second that, even if you read my thread about my turbo setup, it explains it further. I searched and found it all out. Search more, you will learn wonders about your car, even as to where and why you got that little oil leak. Rand's and my .02. So there is our .04.

God your an ass to a new member Randy...just playing! Pretty funny. Hey the nice thing about here versus 2gnt.com is that really none is going to hit you for not searching. However, I do love 2gnt and there is more info there than I will ever know what to do with, I'm starting to come over here now conveniently and finding myself answering questions now rather than asking!
