4" exhaust DIY

I myself am trying to find me someone to build a 4" alum v-band exhaust as well for my 90. I was going to go with a side exit off the 366 but decided I still will street the car a little. A full exhaust will work to my liking.

I want those soundclips

TSimage - that looks really nice. Those welds turned out real clean. In hindsight, I shouldve spent more time prepping the aluminum for cleaner welds afterwards.

slowgsr - I hadnt given an aluminum DP much thought; I figured every one that I saw was SS, so alum was off limits for reasons of being to weak/soft at whatever temp DPs end up getting. Giving it thought, Im glad its SS - I trust it completely (but yea, it would be nice to shave some more lbs!).

Soundclips - wont be this wknd, I just scooped up some delta k272s, so it wont be til they come in. Maybe one of these guys with 4" exhausts can post something up ;)

Out of curiosity, what does aluminum do to the exhaust note? I know my friend had a custom DP made for his STI and the guy cheaper out with some shitty material and it sounds raspy as hell. He tried multiple mufflers and they didn't change the raspiness. If it doesn't sound bad, then I'll make one for my current build.
Sound clips!!!!

I've heard that going from a 2.5" to a 3" on a 16g car is worth something like 25-50hp. Someone actually tested it a few years ago. So think what it would be like on a big turbo car!

AAAANNDDD, most v8 cars that make power generally run a pair of 2.5's or 3.0's. A pair of 2.5" is roughly = single 3.5", and a pair of 3" is roughly = a single 4.25"

I doubt that at all. 2.5" flows enough cfm to support 600hp. It has been proven on other turbo cars and in the V8 world. There is no way a 16g anything at whatever boost will pick up that much power from a half inch increase in exhaust piping. I would expect 12-15whp maximum on a car with this size turbo, and this on the upper end of what I would estimate.

that's TIG-arific buddy, great job:thumb:
and just wait guys, those cams he just got will make it sound all the better:sneaky:

ROFL

And to believe this asshat was trolling me earlier. Nice catch 9awd.. Its definitely funnier within context.

At the end of the day however, I say just let people do what ever they want with their own cars I suppose-

Stainless DP and flex section into full aluminum exhaust with multiple vband sections for easy removal including the muffler. Each piece will hang in place by itself without anything else attached to it. It has made a lot of little mini repair jobs a breeze because with the larger drive shaft I have now along with the 4" exhaust there is ZERO room to work...
I enjoyed mine and I'm in Cali too LOL. :p

To top it all off I'd say the whole thing weighs maybe 8lbs..

Once again though, props to the OP for his DP especially, that bad boy came out pretty slick and overall looks very professional.

it that the coolent overflow bottle next to the exhaust ???

Yes it is. Some tracks require your coolant over flow to be located behind your rear wheels incase of leaks or over flow. Its an NHRA rule rarely enforced by many tracks but it does a nice job of cleaning up the engine bay as well.

I thought so, but the front of the car does not look like it would have that sort of rear end :D

Post a build thread of it! I wanna see more.

There is one. :p Search for "The Raven" its still down right now because I am a project whore. I have another 1G I need to complete in a week and a half and on top of it all that project got held back for 4 others which are complete so hopefully I will be able to return to it next year but I always say that.. LOL!
