3G Steering Wheel In 1G

I was curious if a 3G steering wheel could be mounted in my 1G Eclipse. The leather on my factory wheel is peeling and it looks horrendous. Reason for not getting another 1G wheel is because I like the looks of the 3G wheel better and an aftermarket wheel isn't an option. Any thoughts?

Hub splines are the same with 1g, 2g, and 3g's along with some other mitsubishi cars. Turn signal return points on them also match up. Even the evo wheel turn signal return points match up but the splines are different on the evo wheel. I make hubs for swapping the evo wheel into our cars and have used the same specs for all three different generations of eclipse's. Some guys have even swapped our wheels into dodge colts as well and one guy recently got a hub from me to swap an evo wheel in his colt.
The only problem you will encounter on it not being 100% plug and play would be your horn contact ring on the 1g and the 3g wheel uses a clock spring for horn connection. http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/evo-steering-wheel-in-a-1g-with-functioning-horn.471401/

Another option would be a wrap.

I was going to re-wrap mine but I can't find anywhere that will do it for a decent price and I'm not exactly sure how to do it myself
