so my car is running pretty good now, after I fixed the recent crank pulley issue. There are 2 other issues that I can think of that might be bad to take a trip on, which is about 310 round trip miles. 1) Boost leak city...I will have to pull the motor to fix a few of the leaks, which I don't have time to do with school, and other more important things. 2) The car will intermittently lose all power, and the gauges and all lights will shut off, but the car never actually dies. It only does this under boost, and under vacuum it has never done this.

What do you think? It's all highway driving, with only maybe 5 minutes of stop and go once I hit Lexington. Do you guys think I'd be ok?

Lexington KY? What part exactly are you going to? I don't think I would try it. But if you do, there is plenty of dsm help in KY, depending on your local. Not in my city though, I gotta drive several miles just to get basic things done I don't want to tackle.

Eh, I go to school at Purdue University, but the car is in Bowling Green, Ky. it's not to bad of a drive really, but my other car is on jackstands being worked on. I suppose I could rent a car, but I hate having to pay 120 for a 2 day trip...

If your car broke down, you would pay that or more just to have it towed. Lexington to BG isn't a bad drive at all.

Yeah, you're right. I was thinking it would be ok, I'll check into renting a ride Monday. I need to fix these cars though because I'm going to be making that trip alot int he future.

It would probaly make it, but you never know.....

I read an article the other day where a guys car died on the freeway and he couldn't get off to the shoulder in time and got rammed. "These cars", if I had two dsms, I would sell one and get a cheap on gas reliable DD for that. Dsms can be dependable but alot of maintenance, upkeep is involved and with school and the winter coming on, it would be a headache. Good luck bro and be safe on that trip.

I appreciate it. I've never had issues with trips in it before, I didn't realize people had such little faith int heir DSM's, but mines not mint either :p I just figured I could save some dime and drive it. I probably won't though.

ROFL I have complete faith in mine, its got 95k and no issues. I have drove them on 500 mile trips before, but I make sure they have NO isssues.

I agree with others when they say don't take the Talon. Once you fix your issues and go for awhile without problems, you'll feel better trying it out on long trips. I had an old 1g Eclipse that I put 22,000 miles on in one year because I use to travel a lot. On top of that, I use to race it at the track sometimes. These cars can be pretty reliable when maintenance is up to date and all major issues are fixed.

My car has some issues and I drove it about 300 miles yesterday and was extremely nervous the whole way, never took my eyes off the gauges. If you have another vehicle or another way to get a car I would I guess.

I have faith in mine. Daily driver for 60k miles in 4 years. I driven it with boost leaks, exhaust leaks, oil leaks, coolant leaks, bad spark plugs, etc..... I make sure I get my maintenance in as regular as possible and fix the major things in when I can, but all in all I have never had any trouble.

Boost leaks are just going to give you crappy gas mileage, the thing that would scare me is the car suddenly losing power. I would find out the cause of that first...not really sure what it could be if you've replace the terminals and grounds. Are you sure it's properly grounded? I had to sand some paint away for the one on the firewall for it to properly ground and my car was having similar issues.

Oh and just exactly where are the boost leaks coming from that require you pulling the motor?

Intake manifold, under the intake manifold to head somewhere, i can't pinpoint it.

AS for the grounds, the only bad one might be the one from the neg. terminal to the firewall. I don't know what is causing it, everything is ok except for that.

Yeah, that is going to suck

The power loss is a big problem man, just does not sound safe to me to take it on a long trip with KNOWN problems. Mine however, I do not have much faith in it because when IT DOES break down (and it will) I won't be really disappointed. Some things just randomly go wrong and break. Half the time it's not even your fault. But MOST of the time, it probably is because you were trying to save a nickel. Good luck either way, If I had money I would get a Camry or a Honda JUST for DD. I will never ditch my baby, she's just... to0o0o0o hott :p

Sounds like mine, it's been doing good lately though. I need another car, my 2 are cursed I swear.

If the boost leak(s) are bad enough, you won't be able to maintain highway speeds. Best to rent a little ecobox than chance it.

ya dont do it, sounds like a problem waiting to happen. you shouldnt need to pull the motor to fix any boost leaks LOL.

Makes it 10x easier, especially for the location of this one. And no, I'm not going to do it.

I'm glad you won't risk it. And if you pull the motor, why not do a couple things that you can do easier with the motor out like replace a broken exhaust manifold stud or clean the block and engine bay. Might as well, if it's coming out anyway.

I am going to, engine bay might get painted, but that's if the car isn't gone by then.

Nice name by the way, burnanating the country side?

That's right! And I eventually hope to install some teeth and scales on my car that are made with consummate V's! I only learned recently that I spelled the name wrong. Its apparently trogdor.
