3000 gt TT. Brakes ?

I just finished a 1000km race with the RTM kit. We died 10.5 hours into the 11 hours it took for the race, something let go and we lost power. But we also cooked the brakes. I think it was one driver pushing harder than he should. I ran ATE super blue, there is better brake fluid out there, we boiled it ( 2nd driver out ) I nursed it for my 2 hour stint with a pump then brake approach. The second driver after me boiled it enough we did a brake bleed mid race, he went into the field when he lost the brakes. I think we were the only car to not get stuck in the mud off track being a AWD. Now I have a bad vibration so we might have warped the rotors. They were good rotors from Frozen Rotors. I wonder if the race outcome would have been different if the race was the day prior, it rained 70mm, thats about 2.5 inches :)

I managed to run 2 inch brake ducting and its done in a way I am happy with. But the scoops at the front of the ducting were not that large and got knocked off during the race when the first driver made contact with another car. So I will have to do some digging to figure out what the weak link of the brakes still are. I think its going to be that the one driver thought he was in 15 minute sprint races instead of a endurance race.

I have not been able to get pics off my phone for a week, I will get some pictures of the ducting and do a update once I do a post mortem on the car.

It was fun as hell though. My data shows the car was almost 1.3 latteral g's on toyo r888 235 tires.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the RTM kit myself, it was a nice easy install. I ran good rotors and full on race pads.

Curious, did your RTM kit give you a gap between the base of the rotor and the caliper? I have a slight but noticeable gap with mine.

Ive seen rotors warp from track use.
I was using Carbotech RP2 track pads.
We certainly boiled the fluid, two different drivers.
Hopefully I get to take a look at the car this weekend. I negelected my family getting ready for the race, so I have to be carefull how much time I spend in the shop the next little bit.

Nothing wrong with the brakes. Pads still have lots of material left....Bearing failure! Again! I can understand cooking the first set of bearings in 15 hours of racing, we left the manufactures grease in them. The new second set was packed with race grease. I did note that I got two different bearings, one looked more robust than the other. Im going to try a new hub on the side that failed and new bearings again. That was about 11 hours of track time to failure on the second rebuild.

The wheels from FAST fit with room to spare. 17*9 et 25. But they sure look like they stick out lots, more than I expected. I also expected the wheel to be closer to the strut.

Your looking at a 13 inch Ford Cobra Rotor, VR4 Calipers and a Fast FC01 wheel.

What size tire are you running?

A good general rule of thumb for the 3kgtvr4 calipers and wheel clearance is if it fits a stock evo with brembos then it should work for the dsm.
Garfield (from tuners nation) told me a 17" diameter is a minimum and spoke design is the big concern. This was back a few years ago when I was doing the swap.

Sucks your wheels didn't fit.

You could use something like tire rack to check fit for the next one's. Just select any evo model that came with brembos then narrow your search to either the wheels you own or the one's you want to get.

I was lazy with wheels, I just went with stock evo 8 wheels. :thumb:

Any wheel that works on an Evo will work fine on a DSM with 3kVR brakes.

The Brembo caliper on Evos is twice the size of the 3kVR4 caliper - if it works on an Evo it will be just fine on a 3kVR4-equipped DSM.

For reference, I have a 3kVR4-equipped 2G ex-race car, and an Evo 8/9-equipped street 2G. The above holds true.

The issue with the 3KGT calipers (as I'm sure you know) is they protrude out from the rotor surface a ridiculous amount, making wheel fitment a pain. Are you saying Evo calipers stick out farther than the 3KGT calipers?

Ex-race car??

Bizarre s#!t just happening when I tried to reply...

GST with PSI - literally, Evo Brembos are TWICE the size in any dimension you care to measure. Even the pads are twice the size...QAny wheel that fits an Evo will fit a DSM with inches to spare on those two brake options.

Black95TSIawd - yes, ex-race car - the SPAC reclassed 89-99 DSMs to the same class as Evos and Stis. I'm going to spend $20k a year to fight for LAST place ? I don't think so...
